Smile Great News, No Smog In Cal For 2 Years, Help Me Take The Emissions Off!

Bought my 1990 FC3C n/a 3 months ago, and just got new registration renewal, 51 dollars and no smog for 2 years. Have read some info on getting rid of the emissions stuff, but where to start. Any and all suggestions are welcomed. I have wrenches in hand and want more power, DOG HAPPY. Thanks. Peace. RUF RUF RUF

Ok, thanks. I have read up on it, but was just curious if there is a specific order all of you longtime owners and residents would recommend? Got son gone for weekend, and need to wrench in peace. RUF RUF RUF.

so why no emissions tests? Comming up with a more strict test Thats cool though but remember in two years your going to have to put all that **** back in.

check the archive, there's an excelent emmisions removal thread in there. Honestly you're better off removing the emisions stuff and when the time comes getting way better cats.

The guy I bought the car from smogged it a week before, and when title transferred I guess the underpaid employee at my local DMV, must have ( 50 $ ) entered it incorrectly or something. Anyhow, is there anything related to emessions that I should definitely leave intact?

why don't you just build it right and leave the smog equippment on.

My non turbo 'vert Dynos between 165 and 175 (depending on dyno) and passes the CA sniffer test just fine.

I'm not worried about the sniffer test, It passed with flying colors when I bought it. Are you saying that I should leave it as is? I just want to do a few things for more power. Maybe I should just do some more reading. From what I read, and what I know, which is very little, I was under the impression that doing this would help.

swap cats out as a whole piece.. all three together... that way you can swap it back in 2 years to pass.... Exhaust is the first place I would start. You dont need back pressure (S5) so go with a 2.5 in I.D. pipe from exhaust manifold to the T 2 y pipe. But you need good mufflers to keep the sound ok..BTW T2 Y is a bolt it 2.5 I.D. Y pipe. now you will have flames too!!!!!!

Nah, the stock stuff is still 15+ years old and much less efficent than modern emissions equippment.

Use a good high flow cat, and cat back, leave the air pump and other emissions stuff in place (since half of the stuff controlled by the ECU is for drivability), and go from there.

Toss in that a air pump is required for your cars aux ports and VDI to work, what else can you remove??? Nada, zip, dippo, nothing.

Ok, cool read a little bit more and understand what you are saying. So , what would be , for my FC, the best course of action for more power? Or just leave it alone and be happy with what I got, and maybe invest in a another FC turbo? RUF RUF RUF

Like I said , I'm new to the rotary, and to this site, so what year turbo would you suggest? Have seen a couple advertised around my area for around 2500-4000. Would have to look to decide, and the threads regarding checking before buying are fabulous. So, TII, year, and why. Peace, thanks . RUF RUF RUF

i'd stick with the NA personally
a free flowing exhaust system would be step one
step two is CAI
step three i'd say would be starting on the fuel system. A SAFC is a good start.
Course, a turbo IS cheap power... S5 tii will be plenty fast with ^^ those three mods.
