Talking Got my FD alternator installed!!!

Yo!

Got my FD alternator from Silverroter installed yesterday. Went in pretty nice & no real problems. Now I don't have to run of my battery charger & drive like a grandma. Yeah! Went to get a new pair of alternator belts at the local autoparts place. I had searched the forum for the right size belt & of course found the wrong size in a post somewhere. I had found a post that said use a 15321. The autoplace said use a 15315. I went to the parking lot & got my tape measure & measured around the silly pulleys, I came up with 32 inches. They only had one belt & I needed two so I just got one of them.

The belt install was pretty easy once I figured out that I had to loosen the bolts on the tension pulleys on the PS & AC as well as the tension adjustment screws. I was thinking to myself - wow this is soooo easy. Then as I was tightening the AC belt with the tensioner.... SNAP! broke the damn tension screw. I had topped it out against the end of the adjustment range... OOOOPS!

Well, I've recently moved & almost everything in my house is packed in a box. I was starting to sweat a little. I removed the tension pulley bolt & removed the thing to look at it. There was quite a bit of thread sticking out the lower end of the adjuster. Hmmmm... I flipped the thing around & stuck it back in and had a few inches of thread sticking up through the tension bracket. Hmmm... I looked in my dad's old toolbox & saw what could be a metric nut, bolt & washer... I took the nut & washer & they just happened to fit the tension bolt - Amazing! I got some vice grips & ran the threaded adjuster rod a far in a s I thought it would go b4 it snapped again then put on the nut & washer & CAREFULLY put some tension on it. After that I got out the hack saw & sawed off the rest of the thread sticking out so it would clear the hood. Put the rest back together & BAM!! Success!!!

Fired it up & checked all the belts & tried the AC - everything seemed ok so I dropped the hood jumped in & backed out of the driveway & laid down a nice 20ft. set of 2 tire marks right in front of my house!!! I'd never really done that b4... the car seemed to really run great.. even with AC on!!(of course I've been driving like grandma with no alternator for a week) I'm a real happy guy now & want to thank Silverrotor for having a great alternator kit for us FC guys. All my stuff seems to be working just great. Time to get cleaned up & head to the Beach!!!

The alternator pulley is definitely 15315, as I just installed my dual alt pulley yesterday. Caution though, as I had to go to two different part stores because the first two belts I bought were slightly different. They were off by a few mms eventhough they were both the same number on package and belt. Eye-ball them before you buy.
