Good offer on a rough TII
So my friends 1990 Turbo II has been dwelling in my garage for the last 6 months and he said I could have it for $1500. Now it seemed like a tempting deal at first but after poking around the car for a bit, I don't think $1500 is such a good price. First of all, the engine is seized. Could be carbon locked or could be totally screwed. The drivetrain is complete but it is caked in oil and dirt. Needless to say, that engine will have to come out and be rebuilt. The car looks alright but there are lots of broken odds and ends. The mirrors are busted, the door handle is broken, the lip is completely broken off and the interior is pretty bad.
Now if bought the car and parted it out, I might break even at $1500 but then what is the point? I really want the car and I could make it perfect if I pulled all of the parts it needs (sans the engine) off of my '89 GXL which is the same color inside and out and in much better condition. What would be a good offer for a tore up S5 turbo? There isn't any rust or major dents so body work is minimal. The paint is decent but the clear coat is coming off in a lot of areas.

Is it an original turbo car? If it is and there is no rust/body damage it might be worth it at that price. Interior parts are cheap to replace(unless black), things broke like the lip and mirrors are a good excuse to go aftermarket there...
Depends on how bad it really is I guess.
Regardless, still try and talk him down on the price.

You describe the interior as "pretty bad". That would be my sticking point. Some of these interior pieces are getting very hard to find in good shape. Engine parts are still plentiful and paint and body work can always be done. Finding a car with a clean interior with nothing broken is getting hard.
If you make an offer, I'd try to get it running instead of parting it out. While some people prefer the S4s instead of S5s, they are getting rarer, so it's nice to save one if possible.

For $1,500 that car is not a bad deal at all. I seen an original Turbo2 black on black selling on my local craigslist for $4,000 with a rebuilt engine and the body was in the same condition as that one in your garage. Like other people have said since its already in your garage offer a thousand I bet itll be yours.

OK..listen to the "old man"
Ya sure he can get 1500 for it.
BUT..if you want it...say this:.."look you've had the thing in my Garage for 6 months, and really you would have been charged at least 75-100 per month for storage Anywhere.
I'll take the car off your hands RIGHT NOW for 1000 bucks, sign the title and you don't have to get a Tow truck to get it out of MY garage..because IF I can't have it,it shouldn't BE HERE!..getting FREE Storage!"

Well he is a friend so I don't feel like I should charge him for storage space. He's let me keep cars at his place in the past so it doesn't seem fair. I was considering trading him straight across for my GSL-SE. I mentioned it to him and he sounded very interested. The trouble is that I would have to figure out how to get the damn thing running.
