Is this a good buy?

I know a guy who is might sell me a engine...

it's a complete (the only thing missign is the Turbocharger iteslf) s4 T2 engine with wiring harness and ecu, it was taken out of the car running (the car was in an accident), the engine has about 140,000kms (so like 87,xxx miles).
The guy wants $1600 Canadian for it, is this a good buy???

thanks

A few things to consider. 87xxx miles and assuming you do not know if it was rebuilt recently, it would need a rebuild soon. Would you which to an aftermarket EMS or just ditch the stock ECU? $1600 CAD is like $1400 USD correct? Personally I'd move on. But then again you have to consider how easy/hard it is to get that type of motor in your area. I bought a long block for $150.

You live in Canada, right? It's much easier to get JDM 13BT from a certified import specialist that guarantees the product with warranty than buying it from someone that you don't know.

I mean, it's actually cheaper and they offer everything including tranny (basically ready for a complete swap) for 1499 USD. (That's about 1700 CAN)

It also depends how long ago he pulled it - I bought a "running when I pulled it" engine off the club for $300. The seals were all stuck and it had to be tow started for about 3 miles before it finally would run on its own. What he didn't say and I didn't ask, was that he had pulled it, running, about a year and a half before, and it just sat in his garage for that time. I'm kinda surprised there wasn't something living in it, after a year and a half.
