go fast for cheap
I know everyone is going to tell me to search but I have done that and I wanted everything here in one place so please no flaming. I have 1000 dollars to fix up my 1991 NA. I am going for performance not show, and I plan on mostly using it for touge with some occasional drifting. I plan on going turbo at some point in time so keep that in mind. what would you do? Thanks for any help.

well sense you live in cali i assume you have emissions. if not then you can strip off the pump, get headers and streight through exhaust, intake, safc, things like that

What is touge?
I'm not trying to be a dick, but you are going to have to search because the options available to you are too numerous for us to sit here and type it all out for you. Its been typed once so opena word document, search, then copy and paste. Then you can have it all in one place.

i would say intake, remove emissions (if possible) then complete exhaust. that should take care of that pesky $1K
the search has been down for me all night, what gives?

Hey,1sxyrvy, how does your J-SPEC work out. Meaning sound, power, fuel consumption/oil consumption, and how much it was? I am looking at some porting in the far future, just seeing what it is like for you. Is it good for daily driving wise?
Thanks
Justin

Well, I'm assuming Intake only involves slaping on a K&N and then a cheap home made airbox. Say that equals to $100. $200 for the safc and you will have $700 left for the exhaust.

Mindbleed the best performance mod you can do that is cheap is.
Cut your floor board out 6 inches under the gas pedal so you can push it down further when you floor it. That works every time. hahahahaha
just a joke. Get yourself a rebuilt engine with a big street port and a 4 or 6 puck clutch. Take out all your cats and run a straight pipe to a 300 dollar Corksport cat back and your done. that should put you around 2 to 3 grand.

I think that I am going to get a lsd first. As far as exhaust goes I have heard alot about the apex gt spec not being good for an NA but it wont hurt performance will it? I am going to go turbo in a little while so I figure that I might as well get this exhaust now. waht brand safc should i get

On a budget?
Got a nearby muffler shop that can weld up custom?
Get the Mazdatrix dual header kit & have it welded up.
Check out the cheap-o header pics & sound bite links in my sig below.

Hey I'm new here, a rider on the street invited me to this site and i was looking over the messages and and i saw urs. I don't too much this site but i got to say that a throttle body was probably the best performance thing i don't so far. I got mine off e-bay for about 5-600 bucks and it gave me a good 30 hp and 15lbs of torque. Try it and see if u like it

you best bet for $1000 is to tune-up your car and go racing(real racing, not street racing)...
You will improve all your driving skills the first time out if you are any kind of learner at all.
your driving ability on the street will improve with seat-time...

Mindbleed why would you buy a expensive Apexi GT spec cat back? Spend your money on parts that will actually help you in performance. Don't spend a grand on a catback when you can get a clutch and a flywheel that will actually help you get the most out of your stock engine.

i'm a huge fan of the theory that you should just spend a weekend fixing up the car as much as you can. then see how much money you have left over. The intake exhaust and safc is a pretty good bet, get the throttle body after that and you should be pretty set.

No replacement for displacement. If you are a good salvage dog, you could sell your s5 engine for a decent price and have enough to put in a TPI engine and spank just about any N/A and most TII's for half the cost and have a long lasting powertrain that has tons of upgrades for little money.

Where in this forum is Other engine conversions?
This was not a ment to be a Piston vs Rotary statement. The RX7 is a great car.

SAFC for a stock NA? Why? NA's run pig rich anyways. SAFC is the last thing he should buy.
You take 2 exact cars line them up with your intake+catback=1k
vs. same car with ACT 6puck+RB 9lb flywheel =1K
who is going to win, lets get real.
The clutch and flywheel combo will walk away from the other car all day
Spending a grand on a catback and airfilter you can't even tell a noticable difference in "seat of your pants" HP.
