Angry Girl friend, fried my ECU? Maybe? Help please

Hello, let me explain briefly my issue. I am not asking you to be a mechanic, just some thoughts. Last evening I got my 1990 RX7 GTU (Non-Turbo) out of storage. OF course the battery was dead, so my girlfriend thought it would be a nice gesture to try and jump it. In the midst of jumping it she crossed the negative/positive cables. She said they were probably on for about 5 seconds and realized something was wrong - she took them off! Now the head lights come on, they stay stuck up - the dash will NOT light up, and the car wont turn over.. so I am assuming electrical..(duh.) Can you help me here? Maybe where to start trouble shooting!?! I would greatly appreicate it!

The first thing to check is your MAIN fuse. . it's in the fuse thingy under the hood, the one in the middle. It's 80 amps. It's generally the first thing to go when jumping these cars improperly.

Check EVERY fuse in the car. The main fuses in the engine bay and all the fuses under the dash. in theory the main fuse should of blown before any damage was done but that is not always the case.

Once you have checked all the fuses then you can start to diagnose what has actually fried.

5 seconds is a long time. You are very lucky the battery didn't explode, or maybe I should say, your girlfriend was lucky. The ECU should be fine, but the alternator might be shot, along with $20 worth of fuses.

Pray that the ECU is not toasted.

Doubt it.
The fuses should go first.
