getting the differencial appart?

I took all the bolts out, there's sealant, is there a right way to pry the differential open? please advise me, thank you

tap the case with a dead blow hammer around the seam...

Then use a pry bar to pull the stub shafts out

or vise versa i forgot lol

hm, if the stub shaft is broken, do i just pull it out, and put the new one in...done? I might not have to open it i guess..dunno

the way i broke the seal is to actually force it in a twisting motion. like a soda bottle. i was afraid of hitting the casing too hard and breaking something, but the cast iron section it pretty stout. i used a 2x4 against the webbing and wacked it in the direction the pinion would go.

You don't have to open the case if you can fish out the broken part of the stub shaft. Pry the stub shaft away from the housing. If the broken piece won't slide out you can try welding a thin rod to it or drill and tap it then insert an bolt and pull it out.
