Getting at the blower motor thermal fuse...

I believe I have the "blown thermal fuse" problem with my blower motor, and was wondering what's the best way to get at it. I didn't see anything particularly helpful in the FSM (regarding blower motor removal), but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place (section 15)...

Is this a "take off the dash" thing? or is it relatively straight-forward to just stick my head down in the passenger side floor board and go after screws and wiring harnesses?

Looks hard, very simple. Locate the blower, there will be 3 screws around the outside of it (almost in a rotor shape). Take them out.the blower and hampster wheel will fall down together, then unplug the two wire harness going to it. Done

the blower motor is under the far passenger side of the dash. you cant miss it. Its got a round protrusion (with a nipple on it )

Wait you dont have to remove the dash to get the blower motor out then? Also does anyone know of a different fan that puts out alot more air?

Err.. maybe I am confused about exactly where the thermal fuse is, then.. I thought it was on top of the whole unit.. how does taking out the blower and hamster wheel fan get me to the fuse? I don't see anything remotely fuse like in the blower/hamster wheel unit. :/

Don't touch the fan, there is no fuse on it or near it. The blower motor's circuit breaker in is the interior fuse box by the driver's foot, labeled HEATER 30A (see the FAQ if your fuse box has no lid). Push the red button to reset it if it's popped.

NZ-- I don't want the circuit breaker, I want the thermal fuse. As mentioned in these threads:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...al+fuse+blower
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...al+fuse+blower

It's supposedly on top of the blower unit up in the passenger footwell... there were some more posts about this to be found in a search a year ago, but it seems they have expired/disappeared.

I'd rather not take off the dash if I don't have to.. but it seems like nobody who's done the repair before is spotting/posting in this thread... edit: and I don't want to waste my time or break something trying to do things in a way that it can't be done...

A fan that puts out more air! That is something worth more thought. But first, how about the easy thought of just sending more power to the fan?

How much more power do you think it could take?

<Kinda Off Topic>
That might be the key, though you might need to bypass the logicon (Turning my logicon into a series of switches next to my aftermarket gauges would be pretty sweet, then I could put the gauges where the logicon was and stick my MegaSquirt/Techedge readout where the gauges were . . . and it would look cool and no one would have any clue what the series of switches does
</Kinda Off Topic>

. . . great, you have got me thinking about yet another project :-p

Well that's interesting, you learn something new every day. Mazda doesn't list the fuse inside the transistor as a seperate part, only the complete transistor (P/N FB01-61-769).

The complete blower assembly is very easy to drop out. It's only held in by three nuts and a duct clamp, plus there's a couple of plugs to disconnect. If you don't have it, download the HVAC chapter of the S5 FSM (there's no HVAC chapter in the S4 FSM) from www.iluvmyrx7.com or www.teamfc3s.org and read page U-30 for removal and page U-33 for the location of the transistor.
