Gettin my J-spec
Hey everyone i have a 87 turbo 2, they just sent my motor out today, The motor is a 89-91 Block but with all 87-88 intake, turbo front cover everything, With getting that is there anything i should pay little more attention to? anything i should watch out for? How do you guys think this motor will run compared to a 87 motor?

ya, 87'-88's are mechanical omp 89+'s are electrical omp. and you just said you have a 87' turbo.
you also said they are sending you a 89 motor with an 87-88 front cover so he is already set.
it will run better and stronger than a series 4, and a little more power i also know 89+'s have high indepence injectors, diff wiring harness and ecu. so you might need to swap in your old injectors cause your 87' ecu and wiring harness i think will conflict with the 89 injectors.
someone correct me if im wrong.

He said he has 87 intake on it as well, that covers the injectors. Do you mind me asking what shop set you up w/ 89 bock, 87 fornt cover and intake-thats pretty nice. Or did you mean they told you to use these pieces when you put it in? The 89 has higher compression and nicer turbo, but one thing you have to realize is it has dual wastegate passage on turbo 89+ and same spring as 87 turbo (boost over this on stock 89+ is achievced w/ computer boost control). You will not be able to boost over about 7psi w/ out boost controller. Not neccesarily a bad thing.

It should run a bit better, but one thing to realize about the high compression 89+ motors is that they were able to run this higher compression and boost safely because they upgraded the ECU processor so it was 2X faster in 89. Be very careful running higher boost levels w/ slower ECU as it cannot compensate for factors causing detonation as fast and you have raised the risk of detonation significantly w/ higher compression.

dammit don't you listen! i said injectors 87-88 and 89+ are different. 87-88 are low indepence and 89+'s are high. they don't work the high ones (at least not well) with a 87-88 ecu.
they are the same yes all 550cc's.

I noticed that. If he meant to have a "," between "turbo" and "front cover" that may mean he is getting 87 turbo. I hope he meant a "turbo front cover" -whatever the hell that might be, at least it might imply engine still has 89 turbo and mani. on it...:p

Its Japan Direct, They were out of 87-88's so they took a 89+ core and put all 87-88 parts on it. Unfortally they did send me the 87-88 turbo. But im gettin that all for the price of a 87-88. They are sendin the 87-88 injectors so i'll be fine. I was wonding how that motor will run with all the 87 parts on it, thanks guys for helpin out i really dont plan on moddifying it all that much. All i have for it now is a K&N cone filter.

Port that wastegate on the 87 turbo while it is out of car! This is a good safety mod. It will allow you to run low restriction exhaust/intake w/ out raising boost to dangerous levels. More power at stock boost levels!

well i got the motor today and what i thought was gonna be great just turn to the worst, all i got is the 89 block and a 87 turbo, that's it, now im missing many parts and knowledge of what goes where and what does what, biggest problem i dont have any gaskets, and i have no clue were all the vacuum lines run i expected a couple days to get it in but now im looking at weeks if im lucky
Also how do you go about porting the wastgate?
