to get my car running...

alright. i have a predicament. i just bought a 88 Turbo shell (no eng, no trans, missing engine harness, have ECU). i just lost my job and i have 2K to spend. i have several choices that i can take to get this car running soon (hopefully).

First one: buy a parts car w/ eng, trans, ECU, just no wheels or int for 1k, get the engine rebuilt and sell off un-needed parts for cash, and use 86 harness and ECU in a 88, or w/ a 88 ECU if possible.

Secondly: buy a engine, trans, harness and ECU package off ebay or a site.

Thirdly: buy a rebuilt base engine from either Mazdatrix or Atkins, and get the rest off of ebay.

or Lastly: just forget about it for now and wait till i have a steady income and do the entire project right and how i'd like to.

i'd just like to get some input on what to do because i'd really like to see this car running. i was aiming for late summer early fall for a rebuilt engine, but i just lost my job so im at a pause on income. thanks guys.

Save your money for now and put the project on hold. According to some economists, the state of the union is going to get worse yet, and parts don't buy groceries

I guess it depends on your monthly bills..... If you have 10 grand saved up are living with your parents and eating their food and on their insurance AND our dedicating 2 grand to this build i say do this:

Contact japan2la on the forums (only..well atkins too reliable jspec vendors)

Get engine with decent compression, trans, and wire harness out of an s4 for roughly 1500.00 or so, which should just about get your car running. Other 500.00 for misc **** like clutch, afm, throttle cable, hoses etc. Prob gonna be right around 2,200.00 thats what my complete swap costed (give or take) into a 1988 se.

If that is not your living situation......do that after you find steady income, or you will be buying parts now and selling them at a fraction of your paid price over the next few months.

well right now i just started college, so this is my second seems. and i am living off my rents all the way, so that's my basic scenario. right now im looking for openings for an on campus job so i'll be making some money. and im searching for a harness separately. found one for 50 but minus wiper wires. and im talking to 915 racing on what is needed to convert a 87 to a 88 harness. im really leaning for that parts car i found, its the only other RX-7 i've found in Alabama practically. i just want to go and see if they have a spare batt around and test the engine electrics.
