general rust removal question -picture


well this is one good reason to always uste coolant. its mild rust. nothing really eaten away.

my question is. what can i use to safely remove the rust with out damaging the chrome sufrace of the housings, and with out tarnishing the flat face of the irons/plates.
i know there is a jar of purple goo that i can buy. but i know it also changes metal to a black color when you get it on it.
is that safe for irons? will dripping it on the face on accident cause problems?

if any one has any experience . let me know!

You're worried about harming that housing when it's grooved like it is??? Maybe it just looks bad from this angle, but I'd check your housings and see if they need to be replaced...

buddy...... its just a pic of the engine.that housing is gone. of cource i am not stupid enough to use that housing.
so how bout i post other pix for the picky viewers.

For stuff like this I use a Dremel tool with a little wire wheel on low speed.

fill the passages with clr. or, dip that ****** in an undiluted vat of ZEP purple industrial solvent. will eat the rust away and make it look like good. or just use clr and wash it with a rag.

Sorry, I didn't know you were only wanting to reuse the e-shaft.

Aaron Cake has the easiest and cheapest solution.

hehe. i got zep and a set of 3 brushes. plastic, stainless, brass. and a **** load of gloves.

i was worried CLR would be to harsh on the faces or the chrome


would it be to harsh? the clr

ive personally always been a fan of diesel fuel. it will eat it away. drop it in there overnight. about the chrome though... diesel MIGHT do somthing to it so research more. purple power or a parts cleaner and wire wheel is also extremely efficient, just time consuming.
