Gear Shift Assembly?

I have a very dumb question. I have a 90 vert that has a very loose gear shifter. I pulled it from the transmission in order to replace the bushings. QUESTION: Is the gear shift stub molded into the shifter extension (the threaded portion with shift ****)? I could not separate the 2 pieces to replace the upper bushing....upon twisting like heck, they broke loose and appear to have been molded together with rubber. Did I miss something? I have had several 1st gen rx's and the shifter mounted to the stud with an allen screw but my 2nd gen. did not have any such allen bolt.

If the two pieces are indeed molded together, how does one replace the upper bushing?

Thanks a million

The shift lever is a two piece unit with a urathane isolation bushing bonded in the middle of the two halves. If you infact ripped yours off, You're half way to a short throw shifter mod I did. You'll need to extend the lower shift lever to accomodate the length of whatever shift **** you want to use. (should be the universal 3 screw variety) I used a 1/4" bolt threaded into the top of the lower arm to hold the **** in place while I marked the three holes in the actual lever for drilling of locking holes for the set screws to grab on.

If you don't extend the arm, the lever will be too short and unusable. I found this mod to lower the shifter about 2.5" and shorten my throw to barely 2.5" bumpstop to bumpstop.
