Hey,
I was wondering what gauges you consider as "nessasary" for an 87 t2 with 3"rb exhaust and k&n drop in intake.
Also, whats been you expierence with the autometer A-piller dual pod set up and can 2 of them be mounted together (4 in line in the pillar)
One last thing, which ones would you get mechanical and whice ones electrical?
Thanks Again Guys

First off, I hope you have some fuel mods to go with your intake and exhaust. If not, do not push your car at all or better yet don't drive it. Gauges that are necessary? I would say boost, egt, and temp. I personally like to watch my oil pressure so thats why I have an oil pressure gauge though. Autometer gauges are known for not being acurate so you know but I have the a-pillar gauge pod and it fits fine on a series 4 rx7(86-88). I don't think you want 4 gauges on there though.

umm, first of all you need more then gauges!! you need more fuel too!!. do not floor your car till you get a real boost gauge. I bet you are running too much boost right now. you will blow the engine in no time.
get a boost and exhuast temp gauge.
you can't fit 4... you could probably fit a dual and a single (3) if you don't have auto seat belts.

Re: gauges...which ones
Once you install an FCD you will need a boost gauge. Auto Meter gauges are not that great, but the Pro Comp line (Pro Comp, Carbon Fiber, Ultra-Lite) are acceptable for regular street use.
You will be fine with the fuel issue if you have a catback exhaust. However, if you have the full RB exhaust, then you may have lean problems, in which case you should get an AFR gauge and/or EGT gauge.
Mechanical gauges don't require electricity, so they will not drain any power, and will not fluxuate with any electrical problems. Electrical gauges are easier to install, are usually easier to calibrate, and some have more functions (memory, outputs, variable scaling, variable sensitivity, etc.). It's your choice. Personally, I like the SPA electrical gauges:

My 88 TII had an Auto Meter Ultra-Lite pillar-mount boost gauge, RB FCD, HKS high-flow intake, gutted pre-cat, and straight-through catback exhaust. This setup worked quite well for a basic street car. I wouldn't go any further than this without a fuel system upgrade.

... just did a few days ago
(btw FULL 3" RB, I had the car 6 days, I didnt realize the risk. the dude I bought it from was running it that way for 3 years, He must'ev driven it like a chump I can only imagine, since he put that fuel pump and FCD in there as well [not rewired])
to fix the fule issue I have a bosch fule pump that I am going to rewire and get a "boost a pump"
so.
boost, afr, temp and maybe oil pressure
do you think the mods I plan on the new motor will remedy the problem (rewire, boost a pump) and port the wastegate on the 87 t2
thanks guys, I think that was record responce time.
