each manufacturer has 'lines' of gauges; some top tier...some budget tier. I have used ALOT of autometer. The phantom series is all about a white face and backlighting and a look; autometer Lites are higher quality but they all do the same thing. I like having the same 'series' of gauges, thus I pick one 'line' of gauges for everything. We actually used some 60's era Stewart Warners out of a Massy Fergusson combine for a vintage ride!! Normally I go mechanical but electrics are just as accurate; and yes, I walk on my knuckles.

On old FORD 302 v-8's the gauge is threaded into where the elec. sensor goes. this may be the same for most if not all, I only know the old 289/302's. And elec gauge will have the, theorectical, dual possiblility of failure; gauge or sensor. I woudn't worry bout it too much though. Get whatever you get the deal on.

Electrical gauges are easier, and if I use any mechanical gauges I modify them to accept AN fittings, thus giving me better peace of mind vs the cheap nylon tubing they provide for some applications..

And meter control unit is necessary to run those gauges, no matter if u have one or six of them.

does the meter control unit come with them or is that extra. I couldnt find one on that website, can anyone point out where they might be(meter control unit)? The gauge pod I ordered was a pillar one also.
