Gauge interest: Shift ****

I have access to a CNC mill. I was thinking of making myself one. Wondered how many other people would want one. Still thinking about the design so any input wouldn't hurt. I have no idea of price yet.

And sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Yes it will screw on. I agree, I can't stand loose *****. :-) I'm still working on some ideas for the "screw" part. I also don't like the rotor not lined up.

But to get the rotor top on a lathe would not exactly work.

I'd like to see one that is entirely rotor shaped (like the RX8 *****)

That's a cool design. I agree that it would look better rounded but I think it's a great idea.

i would like one, if you had the rotor/ and stationary-gear outline beveled inward into the top of the shiftknob, rather than protruding out and cutting your finders. if it was inwards you could also paint it and cover it with a plasic or glass cover.

The RX-8 ***** are awesome, i had one on my car for a while. but they don't really fit the thread pattern. I think something similar would look really good.

I don't think there is much of an edge/angle to cut fingers, but I see your point. I could grind/bevel the edges.

As I said, the design is NOT final. Keep the ideas comming.

Yeah, definitely keep with the "rotor" design. Wether it is depressed or protruding, it needs to say Rotary. I will not be buying one of these, so keep that in mind with my, "non-consumer" statement.

Hmm I'll be buying one off of you just because I can.

Although I have already found my dream shift ****, I'm not sure if I'll be getting a second RX7 sometime, so I might as well be prepared.

would the **** be weighted?

I like it. What colors would you offer? You're gonna have to make some with the s4 thread and some with the s5 thread

I would think you would not be able to see any threads on the shifter. Don't think it would stick too much above the end of the shifter.

If you mean adding weight, never thought of that, but I doubt it. Havn't decided on colors yet. Was thinking anodize black or gun metal. Or just plain metal.

I will most likely be making the ***** out of Al

By weighted he meant that some ***** have lead (or similar) in them, it has an effect on the way the shift feels.

I want one in black, the rotor sounds like a great idea. Just as long as it is a easy shift.

Did a little more playing with it. Tried the "depressed" idea.
