I painted the needles just to make it diffrent after so many FC's. Get creative and come up with some ideas.

The needles would need to weigh the same. Down to the gram.

How would the needles look though being clear?

My understanding is those gauges are just EL gauges similar to the ones you can buy off ebay but painted black instead of white? That would get that effect I should think.

Edit: Saw the other thread. So they are actually sold at a store albeit expensive. They are absolute sex. $200aud a set it almost seems worth it to look that good. Except I have an S4 :<

I've always wanted a set of Reverse EL gauges for mine (similar to what you see on Euro cars, big blue dial in the middle with the blue numbering around the outside etc.) some may feel they're ricey, I like them and think an FC with them would look awesome.

I am actually interested now whether I could get hold of a set of crappy white ebay gauge faces and repaint it so it's black with white characters. I might do that and see how it goes if anyone's interested in seeing it happen? Would be interested to know how to get a glowing needle though.

The tech behind "glow needles" isn't particularly tricky but I don't know how you'd retrofit it to a gauge like ours.

And BTW...pulling the needles off our gauges is a bad idea- especially the tach and speedo- they are quite delicate mechanisms and easily destroyed.

That whole damn assembly is delicate. The first time I launched on my wider tires the whole gauge cluster surround broke all three screws out of the top and it fell back onto my hands...

And yea those ebay glow gauges suck. Dont be surprised if your gauges just stop working while using them. The way the plates mount on top of your factory gauges sometimes causes the needles to get hung up and not read properly.

regarding the led idea for the cluster it is actually possible
you just have to get all 8 led's for the cluster make sure they are the same size and spec it usually says somewhere online but the only thing is that it will be really bright and you will give up your dimming feature on the gauge cluster
i don't know really about how changing the color works but i know you can change the bulbs for LED

I actually REALLY like the look of this. White characters on a black face with red needles.

Maybe I'll take a weekend some time to take apart my cluster and do this.

Actually, you could probably even keep the dimmer switch as long as you put resistors on the leds so you don't blow them up.

..and I got TWO sets!..
the Only thing I don't really Like about them is that they are IN MPH..not Kilometers Per Hour.
..Ebay does sell a chrome plate looking thing that inserts around the gauges too..(a BezeL)
but if you didn't like the "fabulous IndiGLo Gauges"(lol) I don't think you would like that thing either.
Cheers.

I plan on attempting it this weekend. If it ends up not being too hard, I'm going to be making a write-up about it. I will also be selling a service to modify the S5 clusters for the lazy people (until I can get a S4 one and see how it is on that one).
