Which gas would you use?

Here's a philosophical question. A local station sells ethanol free regular rated 87, but its a generic gas not a brand name like Shell or Chevron. Then of course there is the 87 regular at the brand name pumps that contains 10% ethanol. Which one do you use in your RX7?

If I had a choice... I'd run 87 ethanol-free gas.

Turbo? Non-turbo? Mods?

It also depends on the particular engine. When I had an N/A, it ran fine on whatever 87 octane gas I gave it. I've heard of some people having better results with 89 in an N/A or even premium. Turbos included, I've read on the forum some people give stock to mildly modded TIIs 87 octane with no issues. Higher boost usually includes a move to higher octanes.

From purely a mileage standpoint, I'd buy the non-ethanol gas. Ethanol has a lower energy content than gasoline.

if you cant stick with one gas, meaning you dont always get gas from the same station all the time, I would go with the e10

Definetly the non-ethanol gas. I get approximately 2-3 more miles per gallon than the ethanol type gas and my car idles much much better. Ethanol is basically alcohol and a drying agent that can dry out hoses/plastics, and it absorbs water. Majority of non-ethanol stations are no-name brands. Big name brands have all gone to the 10% blend. You usually find a non-ethanol station near a municipality for city/state vehicles or a marina. That's how I found my station-asked a city truck driver. Google ethanol it if you are unsure.

when we first switched over people had issues when they blended the 2, this is why I say stick with one and keep that

we dont have a choice here anymore, its all e10 and has been for years

if the price is the same then run the non-ethanol blend because it will get better fuel mileage per tank than the blended ethanol.

generally speaking all things are equal, non blended stations usually cost about 5% more which results in the same cost per tank of fuel per mile as the ethanol blend.

i generally buy the cheaper gas because even the top tier fuels usually don't give me that noticable increase in fuel mileage to make it worthwhile, nor the increase in performance that some people claim, which i believe is just in their heads.

+1 on the top. For the second paragraph: Top Tier isn't supposed to give you better performance or economy, it's a standard for the level of detergents in the gas. Any performance benefit is either in their heads or they were running bad gas before.
Though on that note: I use to buy Arco gas all the time and the car flooded regularly.. Until one day on a trip I was almost empty and filled up with Shell [Top Tier] and my flooding issue went away.. So I do believe the added detergents are a good thing.

^+1 lol

I don't think I've ever seen a gas station around here that sells gas without ethanol.

You may be giving "one" too much credit...
