gas pedal/acceleration problem.
I have a '88 non-turbo FC which I bought only about 4 days ago. I'm having an acceleration problem. I gain no speed AT ALL when I floor the pedal and even at half throttle (sometimes I even lose speed), but I do when I step on the gas pedal like 1/3 of the way. I call it "feather-footing". The max speed I can achieve from feather-footing is around 70mph in 4th gear. If i shift to 5th, then I get no kind of throttle response whatsoever. What seems to be the problem?

sounds like your Clutch is Starting to go..That is IF you press down on the Pedal, you See the RPM's on the Tach go up,and the car has no Get up and Go..If that is the case, you should look into getting a New Clutch. If that isn't it,then it could be a Number of Other things, among them Off the bat,I am thinking a Stuffed up(shot) Catalytic Converter.

actually the clutch is brand new. I meant that I get the least amount of throttle response when I floor the pedal even on the tach. If I floor it in 2nd gear for example, i'll max out at 2000rpms. If i "feather-foot" it, I could reach 4500rpms. Why is that?

bad clutch installations do that to gas pedal response? I'm saying that it's strange that I GET acceleration from a 1/3 step on the gas and get little to no acceleration when I step on the gas all the way. could it be the fuel system?

A clutch? Seriously? I can gaurantee you its not a bad clutch. If the clutch was bad then the engine would rev but the car wouldn't accelerate, which isn't what is happening.
I honestly don't have a good idea of what the problem is, but it is almost certainly somewhere in the fuel system. My first guess would be the AFM.

Check vacuum hoses.
Sounds like there's a leak somewhere. When you just give it barely any throttle, the car is fine. But when you go WOT, that forces a lot of air through the tubes, and if there's a leak, it will definitely escape during that time. That would cause the car to suddenly buck and/or lose power and not go anywhere.

Look in the FSM for the way to test the TPS. Check all over for anything disconnected. If you have a spare AFM test that too. Where do you live in Nor Cal, I have a spare AFM you could try if you live anywhere near Eureka, CA. Good luck.
