gas mileage with street ports

hey i have a fairly stock 88 t2.. someone offered to street port for cheap. my concern? how will this effect my gas mileage? i have read on here that the mileage improves and gets worse on the forum so far.. so as you can guess this aint answering my question. what is it.. .better or worse... and the benefits versus drawbacks?... p.s. my engine is already in pieces

Well the more air you flow, the more gas you will need. So when giving it a healthy dose of throttle, you will use more gas than without a port job.
