Gas Gauge probs

i had my FC for like what, 4 months now and it wasn't until last month that i noticed my gas gauge always showing me it's empty. i asked around to some friends who also have RX-7's but none of them knew why. i've been so busy just fixing other things to get the car running good and what not that i never really had time to look at it. it didn't really bother me because at least the gas light comes on. basically all i truely want to know is if anyone knows what could possibly be the problem and how i can fix it. sorry about the nub question guys, if anyone could answer it would be greatly appriciated.

Well, you have posted in the 1st gen section for your 2nd gen, lol. But I'll help you out anyway. Yhe fuel level sending unit can be removed from the fuel tank after you pull the hatch carpet, remove the cover plate and pull the sending unit out of the top of the tank. Remove the negative battery cable before starting. Check the plug connection to the sending unit for any corrosion, clean if needed. If the connection looks good, remove the sending unit and test per the instructions in the FSM, you will need an ohm/multimeter to do this.

If the ohm reading results are what they should be per the FSM, then most likely the gauge in the instument cluster is bad. Pull the cluster and inspect the fuel gauge. There is a series of fine white wires wrapped around a bar, if there is any discoloration, browning or blackening of these wire, then the gauge needs replaced.

Don't have a copy of the FSM, download the online one listed in my sig line.

also i had gotten into an accedent trying to steer out of the way of a dumbass driving on the wrong side of the road and cracced my radiator. i see that you have a manual downloadable in your sig that's awesome because now i can figure out how to get to my radiator if it is even an easy thing to do. rotary engines are so damn intimidating but i'm sure once you get everything down then it becomes easy as can be... [hopefully]

It's just like working on a piston engine, except its smaller. And way cooler. You'll get used to working on it, it's not bad at all.

You need a new fuel level sender to fix your fuel gauge. Pull up the rear carpet and you will see the gas tank panel. Everything else is simple and described in detail in the FSM.

Fuel level sender could also be stuck inside the tank.

Radiator is fairly simple to remove. Drain coolant, pull off clutch fan and shroud, disconnect sensors.. pull of hoses, and find the bolts/brackets holding it on (I can't tell u how stock one goes in because mine is aftermarket)

if the fuel sender is inside the tank is it difficult to get out? some guy looked at it before and told me i need a whole new fuel pump and that didn't sound right to me.

so wait i just need a fuel sender unit right? i did the electrical thing and once there was a proper charge to the wire then the gas gauge went up. by the wire i mean one of the wire that's connected to the tank in the back.

Yes the sender bolts to the pump asembly. Remove the pump assembly from the tank through the hatch access panel and its got 2 wires that go to it. I just recently took mine out and gave it a good cleaning and mine starting working again.

ok well... what exactly am i supposed to take out? or do i just need to clean the sending unit? like i'm confused but i'll be on my way to a junk yard or even the shopping section of this site once i have a clear idea on what exactly it is i need to do. i'm new to tuning cars or any mechanical work at all but i can drive 'em just fine

also i just filled up the tank and the gauge worked fine... so it is the floater inside of the gas tank that just isn't reading it right?
