Funky Idle Mojo

I have an 89' TII with some funky idle mojo. When I start the car cold, the enigine won't idle. Once the motor has warmed up, it will idle, but it only idles around 750rpm (and sometimes a little lower). This problem has become incresaingly worse. At first, cold starts just had a little trouble idling, but now they won't idle at all. Is this a typical tps or bac problem? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

first off the engines idle is supposed to be 750 on the dot do you have the tb mod??? you could also adjust the idle adjust screw on top on the tb to adjust your idle higher so it doesnt dip below 750

so what effect does it have on idle if you did the tb mod? besides the cold start, i didn't think it will affect the idle

I don't have the tb mod, but the point is that it won't even idle when I first start it. I have to keep pressing the gas [and drive it around] until it heats up. Does this sound like anything anyone can point out?

Sounds like your throttle plates for your fast idle is out of spec or thermowax bad/stuck

Yeah, I've got the Haynes Manual, but I'd rather be able to identify the problem than search for it first. What's thermowax a part of?

thermowax control the fast idle cam when it heats up the cam moves and controls your throttle plates clearance inside your intake. iI is basically your choke. It is located on the back of your intake it is a white valve with 2 hoses on it the Haynes manual explains how to see if it is working.

Finally started tearning things up again, even bought an ohmmeter, but the problem was simple. The little elbow that leads to the bypass valve had a HUGE crack in it. I had checked for leaks about two weeks ago, but now that sucker's obvious. The Turbo XS bov is a damn tight squeeze to fit in that elbow. I threw on a temporary solution until I can make it to autozone.
