fuel pumps

Ok.... I have searched for this. nothing useful. so please don't bug me about searching if you happen to find something I didn't, although I would still like to know what you found

anyways, what I was wondering was this. I have heard all kinds of stuff about aftermarket fuel pumps (walbro, bosch, etc etc.) but those cost upwards of 100$. I have heard of people using fuel pumps from other cars (supra MKIV cosmo, fd etc etc.) But what I want to know is why you never hear anyone talking about fuel pumps from large SUV's that have large gas guzzling engines (suburbans, excursions, f250,350, , etc) Wouldn't the fuel injected versions of those large vehicles also have to have powerful fuel pumps?

Or are powerful fuel pumps a turbo thing?

never thought of that. not a bad idea. but, most fuel pumps in trucks and suv's are really big. they would probably be hard to fit in our cars.

Either no one has thought to try it or one might have and it couldn't work. Theres a couple things that come to mind, like already said too big, can't get access to it as easy as you can with our cars or the cars mentioned. But your theory is a good one maybe someone will look into it, hell i might just for craps and giggles just to see if it can be done.

The fuel demands of a piston engine are far less than those of a rotary. Even at 8 cylinders, a 350ci engine is only running a couple <400cc injectors (I know stock honda's are all like 240cc) at a time where as even the little n/a is running 4 460's at once.

This is all off the top of my head though. It's very possible that the new SUV's and trucks are running far bigger injectors and could potentially run a large pump.

Another issue is that we have an intake stroke far more frequently than the afore mentioned boingers. This results in lower line drop from the injectors firiring and thus less need for volume in the delivery to the rails.

Again this is all inference, and I could be very wrong.
