Exclamation Fuel Pump Voltage

I just finished up our 87 TII, it runs great and passed emissions! However, just for grins, I did a fuel pump voltage check. It was 8.5V! Troubleshooting the problem, I found that the ECU was energizing the fuel injector relay all the time, causing the pump to run through the resistor! Apparently I have a bad ECU, but it works perfectly in all other respects. Anyway, I jumpered the relay contacts, and now have 11.5 - 12.0 volts to the pump. I took the car out for a test drive - woweeeeeee! I thought it ran good before, it really runs good now!

Warning! With the possible damage a lean running fuel system can do to an engine, CHECK THE FUEL PUMP VOLTAGE! I had no idea I even had a problem, and I am very thankful I found it before I blew an engine!

One question: I am losing about 1.5 volts or so from the battery to the pump. Should I do the fuel pump wiring mod or am I ok now?

Thumbs up

Hey, never mind, guys. That voltage drop was bugging me too much, so I wired in an extra relay via a switch (I have a hot start problem once in a while) drawing directly off the battery. I checked the voltage, with 12 guage wire it is 13.59 at the battery and 13.56 at the fuel pump. Much better! Have fun!
