fuel problem

Ok well about a week ago I had to replace my alternator. so after I put the new one in I start having problems with my idiot lights when I turn the key to the on position they all come on but only the check engine light is bright enough to see clearly but they all work. so I shrugged it off and jest yesterday as I’m coming home I notices that when I put my foot on the gas peddle that my gas gauge will go down but when I take my foot off the gas it comes back yup. While this was going on, at one point the car like stopped for a split second when I put my foot on the gas then is went back to work. So I have know idea what’s wrong with it and I tried searching and wasn’t able to find anything that fit what I had happening. O my car is a 1989 GTU 5 speed

What's your volt gauge reading when you are driving around? Well above the 12 mark should be the answer. Closer to the 14 volt mark.
