Question Fuel Injectors?

Can'd find question FAQ so im going to give it a go.

I've seen posts of people complaining about a fuel smell in/around their FC (to bad I can't find those posts now) and I seem to have the same problem. From what I've read, the most likely cause is either leaking fuel injectors, or a hole in the exhaust which is coming into the cabin (bad). I cant find any holes in the exhaust at all so I think the second option is out. My question is, how can I check the fuel injectors to see if they are leaking? If they are, should I upgrade them while im at it? I have an NA FC 87 and Im planning on swapping the engine with a street ported NA. I'm also planning on putting a new exhaust system (including headers) and a new raidator, Efan, FD pulley kit, etc. This will be my daily driver.

If someone could direct me to a post/step by step instruction that covers this or just post info here it would be appreciated.

Fuel smells can also be the pulsation damper. A search on that will turn up hundreds of threads.

Easiest way to tell if the injectors are leaking is to jump the yellow check connector (passenger strut tower, sometimes hidden under airbox/AFM) and then turn your key to "IGN". This causes the fuel pump to continuously run, so you can observe the area around the injectors and check for leaks.

If the smell seems to be stronger on the rear left side of the engine bay, it may be the charcoal canister. Mine just recently started belching some vapors from there...

Make sure it's not the PD before driving her much more

Well I would take Aaron's advice on testing the injectors, except that my key has no "IGN", well it does, but the only thing the key does is unlock the steering column, my battery is turned on a by a switch under the dash and its only "on" or "off". My ignition is operated by pressing and holding a button under the steering wheel, wish I had a pic to show you, its ghetto as can be.

Acually I guess ill just turn the electronics on "bat" and it should start pumping, then ill look for leaks, however now I have a new quesation. How do I check the PD?

You should be able to see it with a flashlight, looking down right behind the alternator. Any fuel or puddling in that area will mean it's probably bad. Do a quick search- we've got all kinds of PD horror stories for your Halloween, lol...

I actually used to have a bad fuel smell coming out of the vents when the heat was on, motor blew, replaced the motor, and the smell went away. I have yet to teardown the motor to see what the culprit was, but it was something internal.
