Fuel guage gone haywire?

My fuel guage keeps cutting out and reading E or half way and shifts up and down pretty sporatically even though I was driving with a full tank. Is it a mechanical link or electric? Anybody know how I can fix it? Thanks in advance.

The fuel level sensor in your tank probably either has something on it, or it's busted. I had to replace mine about a month ago. To order a new one from Mazda it's about $75.
