Fuel cut/FCD questions

What exactly is fuel cut? Is the fuel cut off of the front rotor or both? What exactly does an FCD do? I know it alters the signal from the fuel pump, but how does it tie in to the pressure sender?

When I use an FCD, what gains would I expect other than not leaning out and detonating under boost?

I have a Knight Sports FCD on order and it is my understanding that it patches into the wiring harness at the pressure sender....Is this correct?

The stock ECU protects the engine from possible damage caused by too much boost by completely cutting fuel to the rear rotor if boost reaches 8.6psi.

What exactly does an FCD do?
A FCD intercepts the signal from the manifold pressure sensor to the ECU. By sending a lower pressure signal to the ECU (i.e. less than 8.6psi), fuel cut is avoided. Some FCD's reduce the signal by a fixed percentage, which is bad. Better FCD's do not modify the signal at all until just before 8.6psi, then the signal is "clamped" so it does not go any higher.

I know it alters the signal from the fuel pump...
Nope, see above.

Big misunderstanding here. The fuel cut was put there so the engine doesn't boost too high, which will result in "leaning out and detonating" if you have not upgraded the fuel system. If you install a FCD, You will only see any performance gains if you were hitting fuel cut without it. The gains you will get come from the higher boost, not the FCD itself, but you risk engine damage if you have no supporting fuel mods.

Correct.
