Fuel controllers

Which is better the Apex Super AFC or the HKS AFR? I'm interested in knowing which is more user friendly? How easy to tune it? Experience w/ any of them? Etc, etc...

Matter of choice. I believe the HKS unit is a little more versitile, but the S-AFC is nearly as good and soooo pretty. So it really doesn't matter.

Tuning is just as difficult with both controllers. Better book some dyno time and know what you're doing...

LOTS of people here have S-AFCs...Doing a search will yeild hundreds of useful results.

i perfer the AFC myself. however i dont honestly know a whole lot about the HKS unit. the AFC is fairly simple to tune, just adjust some stuff here and there, its just having the tools to know how to adjust it is the trick. but thats with any fuel controler. better get yourself some sort of fuel monitor gauge(A/F or EGT) or get a wideband O2, which is the best way to go.

I have seen that many of the forum members use the AFC. I think thgat Unit is much bigger than the HKS. Isn't that right? Also were is the most common place that you store the Unit? In the glove box?

They have to cut some plastic out, right? Is that i thinks that the HKS could be fit under the radio.
I will like to know about the quality of the product.

To mount my S-afc required no permanant alterations other than the wiring at the ECU.

Double stick tape in the ashtray after removing the cover. I can slide it out and pull up some slack and easily have a co-pilot modifying it for you on the road. (or you can simply stick your finger forward and do it yourself where it sits)

I presonally like the hks map (may be wrong name) system where you have to get a lcd monitor for it....the system costs like 300 plus cost of monitor which is seperate....It shows everything you can think of i dont really know what it does all around but its just another controller with some cool display graphics

http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produc...efault_sub.asp this is what im talking about yeah baby....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1867969393 you can get it suprisingly cheap because no one knows what the hell it is

Obviously you still have to get a controller of some sort but this is a big time help in seeing what is happeneing instead of the little screen on the safc

So the HKs unit needs a separate Monitor? I tough it just was the small display in the unit. Where can I get more info about the HKS unit?

OK, you guys are gettin' REALLY confused here.

The CAMP is *NOT* an air-fuel tuning device. It's simply an informational device - as-is, it only shows really basic things like RPM and speed. To get really interesting info into it (like boost, water temp, etc.) you have to have the CAMP junction box and buy HKS sensors to plug into the junction box. Not to mention you also need a color LCD screen in your car - this does NOT come with the CAMP, it's just a brain box.

The CAMP new is actually pretty cheap. The junction box and sensors isn't cheap, nor is an LCD screen for the car. At the end of the day you just have a fancy display - kind of neat, but that's a LOT of cash for that function.

The HKS Super-AFR is their current air-fuel controller. It's a nice product, but it's about 5 years out of step with the market. The only really neat thing it does is smart idle smoothing and it can more intelligently learn a weird airflow meter - that's it. No monitoring, peak hold, etc. etc. etc. - the Super-AFC runs circles around it. Again, nice device, but it would have owned the market 5 years ago - today it's just out of date.

For a cheap, effective, simple fuel computer, you can't beat the Super-AFC. Next is the Greddy E-manage - one killer fuel computer with TONS more functionality than the Super-AFC, but it *is* pricier with the options, and you do have to have a laptop to tune it.

BTW, the junction box runs about $670 dollars - that doesn't include any sensors either. Ouch!

That's why they call 'em HK$
