Frustrating!!!

I have an 88 GXL that i bought about a month ago and whenever i turned the key, it would start but only stay on for a few seconds. last night i got it running for about a minute, and was so excited that it was running decided that my friend, who had turned the key and was now keeping it at about 3000 rpms, was to drive us around the block. well it stalled and now it wont even run for the few seconds it was before we started! i think we flooded it but what do you guys think???
