Front brake caliper pad spacers?

I'm doing my first front brakes on a rx7 88 vert and found two pad spacers for each pad one on caliper . The outside one has an arrow that point the direction of rotation. My question is do they need to be there? The fsm and haynes does not mention them being there. Thanks

They Prevent Brake pad chatter. If you can stand that, then NO,you don't need them. But would I not use them..NO..Just like Hardware Kit,that contains W springs,to keep the Pad away from the rotor..SO,In Short.,.Pad Replacement,Shims,Hardware Kit,and rotors If needed!
