Followed blink code procedures but the codes won't blink! WTF?
I drive a 90 vert, and a few days ago the check electrical light came on (along with a burning smell). The car won't rev past around 2,500; it's in some sort of safe mode or sth.
Anyway so I proceeded to check the codes on my baby. I grounded the test connector (green, 1 pin, next to the battery), and turned the key to on.
Nothing.
So I try again, and still nothing. The whole light console would come on and then after the initial 3 sec beep the air bag light and one other light would turn off. But the codes won't blink!
Did I do something wrong? I followed the manual to the T! Or is the vert different from others?
And what could it be? When I start my car up the warning light's not there...only after driving her for approx. 5 seconds does the warning light comes on (and hence "safe mode") - I can freely rev the engine before actually moving.

Sound like omp died and your in limp mode, also ecu might have been damaged when omp went out. Make sure you are pre mixing if you don't do so already, check ecu for fried resistors and check if omp is working.

Ummm...how do I check if my OMP is working or not? Mine's electric (1990) and the Haynes manual recommend it bringing it to the dealer to have it checked.
Is there a relatively easy way to check?
Also, if my OMP's really out I don't think I can afford a new OMP. Should I go pre-mix then?

Got it. OMP confirmed dead. Finally able to check blink codes and it read:
Code 26: Step motor (Metering Oil Pump)
Code 27: Malfunctioning MOP, step motors, broken wire, short circuit, or malfunctioning ECU
So there. Sigh....

I think it has to do with the test wire you connect the green plug with.
The first time I used some basic alligator clip wires but I couldn't get it in far enough, so it didn't work.
I then used some basic speaker wires (the ones where the end plastic covers are stripped) and stuck it in all the way and it worked fine.

the problem i had was that the code 27 would reset when i turned off the car. what i had to do to find the code was drive the car until the check like came on, park, plug in the code check wire, and then it spit out the code. before i tried that i was baffled because i thought it was supposed to store all the error codes untill you disconnected the battery to reset it.

I have the same problem. I could only retrive the code with the car on and the warning light on. I have replaced the omp (tested it for ohms) and still have the same problem. Perhaps my ECU is the problem. Did you check yours? How can you tell?
