ahhh, ok well I don't plan on changing boost (want engine to live a long time) but could you see a jump in power from an aftermarket top mount running a stock turbo? or just longer running times with good cooling? I know a better int. seems to add hp, (sadly this brilliant knoweledge comes from video games)

In the stock location I don't think you would see any major increases in any area. Oh and the videogames are right to a degree. The colder the intake air, the denser the intake charge. So cool boosted air = more power than hot boosted air.

thanks, I just got into tuning, I've loved cars forever and thought I knew my stuff till I joined this site (I'm only 16 so I can get away with alot of stupidity haha). I probably will get an aftermarket front mount for when I get into auto crossing in a year or two. I don't even have my liscence but this is a project car and I have a year to work on it bofore it becomes my daily driver. I'll use this sight alot. Thanks InMyWhiteTII you've helped me(or corrected me, or backed me up, or etc. so thanks) in many-a-forum, I'll add you as a friend you seem to know your stuff.

If someone can post a flaw in that, please do cause logic points to it working
Logic also points to heat rising

Mounting the I/C ontop of the motor IS a good idea.....short piping and little volume to charge....

But heat from the motor rises constantly and also radiates constantly off the motor, so in a high boost app. it would only be efficient at very high speeds - and at very high speeds it would STILL not be as efficient as a V or Front because at high speeds they are like ice cubes compared to somthing that is inches above a boiling hot block of iron.

In MY car, I moved the oil cooler up and forward. It tilts in such a way that those stock black plastic things literally direct air into it. If you crawl underneath your car and look up, you'll notice theres a nice curved bend that kind of swoops up twords those black air directors- this is where I mounted my oil cooler; facing downwards so that these black plastic things direct air into it.

I have yet to have any oil temp problems. It works great, and really the only 'fabbing' i had to do was drill a couple holes to mount the oil cooler with. Ill try and get some better pictures up soon if you want them.

Here's a crappy pic of how its mounted (without the black things in there). I know its not detailed.. but you get the idea of where it lies.
