FMIC kit recommendation

Hello. What do you guys recommend for an intercooler kit? I do not want to custom make a kit.

So far I have found:
Greddy
Godspeed
Corksport

The greddy fmic kit is over my budget. It's that simple.

I'll keep this simple so I don't get the burn. What do you guys recommend? Pictures? Opinions? What are advantages of one kit versus the other? Is there a kit that I do not know about?

Thank you.

i have no experice with fmic but ive been looking into getting the corksport fmic kit.. $800 seems like too much though..

rotary-works.com has some reasonably priced fmic and the alimunim piping is pretty cheap so it looks like if ya go custom, u can save some cash

Is this the one?

If so that is a great deal but I don't know about the quality. If it were good quality I would definitely get that.

Bought that kit. "M spec"
it's knock off "greddy"

when the core was sandwiched, it wasn't aligned, some rows of fins were sticking at least a quarter inch out, returned it, received another in similar condition. I've heard the GODSPEED kit has a nicer intercooler.

the piping is really nice though... and the Throttle body adapter needed a little of drilling to get the holes straight. but that is still >100 bucks for a similar piece..

the piping to the throttle body, before trimming, was pushing against the brake master cyl. reservoir. wore out the bushings between it and the cyl. and it began to leak. (for a heads up)

300 bucks for a FMIC
well that's stupid cheap.
you get what you pay for.
don't expect a high quality kit. ala HKS/Greddy/Corksport
the metals feel cheap
some of the parts won't fit right
and you will spend a bit more effort with this one.

that being said.
the kit works,
if you have 300 bucks and think that you want a Front Mount, save your money for the real deal.
if you're on a tightening budget after a motor swap, and
don't want to buy a turbo hood and ship it, then get this.

I've logged about 6,000 miles with mine.
pardon the bent fins, isn't much I can do about them

Never heard of people having issues with the ebay kits for under 15psi.

I really like this v-mount kit from rotary-works. Opinions? I wonder if they would let me split tender? http://www.rotary-works.com/mm5/merc...e=RW-KIT-FC-VM

Nevermind on the rotoworks vmount. Every damn kit has its own set of issues.

Issues

Rotoworks (tons of issues)
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-non-technical-pictures-198/rotary-works-vmount-inetcooler-896391/

Godspeed (same as greddy- tb adapter, ps cap, relocate fuse box and coil pack, no bov flange)
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...highlight=FMIC

Corksport (battery tray garbage, needs different battery, one pipe may need an adapter?)

Honestly, getting a small front mount and finding either someone to make the piping, or doing it yourself would save a TON. Plus with a big front mount like the kits, it takes a lot of fitting and special work like you just posted.

Is this just the Godspeed intercooler? I'm assuming it is since its a greddy knockoff. If it is a good quality product thats a decent price too though.

Or you could just buy an intercooler core like someone else posted and then just get the piping made or from somewhere like rotary works. If someone were to get the already bent piping from rotary works which pipes would you need as far as bends and quantity go?

Greddy install

I am just finishing a greddy fmic install. It was way more of a pain then I thought it would be. Sure you have to hack up the chassis to run the piping through and gut all of the front bumper support, foam, fog lights, etc., but for me cutting the bumper was the biggest pain. I destroyed my dremel on it and ended up using a big grinder. It was hard to get precise cuts, and I really wanted to retain as much of the bumper as possible. I have seen some pretty bad hack jobs that detract from the looks of the car, plus I want to put my factory lip back on. I ended up doing a ruff cut and sanding it down, and I am really happy with the results. I removed my power steering and ac, otherwise I don't think it would have fit at all. The oil filler neck is almost in the way but it just clears. If I had it to do over again I would probably go with a smaller core that mounts behind the bumper. That being said at least I am ready for big horsepower gains later! The down side is if I get hit from the front I have no bumper support and the core is destroyed. Also if you get this kit be prepared to relocate your wiper fluid reservoir. Its not a big deal, but it is another factor to contend with.

Built my own for around $300-$350. Parts from CXracing.com I did not need to remove my bumper, or battery. Did not need to cut any holes either. I did have to move my leading coil though. But that wasn't a big deal. Not bad for cheap!

pics are in my profile.

@genji how did you remove the ps from a car that came with it? Steering rack swap?

I went with the M Spec ebay intercooler kit. Like said before its a knock off greddy kit.

Its not to be expected as a high quality kit like the greddy kit. Its still a decent kit for the price. I had to shorten the pipe coming into the compression tube thats about the only mod i had to the kit besides a few brackets I had to bend a little. As for the car I had to make a few holes bigger and trim up the bumper a little. Other than that I have had it for a year or so now, and have ran it with 18psi. No problems with it. I would reccomend buyin new clamps though if you go that route.

I used my tape measure
I found a core that would fit, measured the lengths of piping, and figured the amount of couplers I needed drawing some rough sketches. I had some left over piping, but better safe than sorry.

I purchased a manual rack from someone off this board. They are easy to find and you can recoup some of your cost by selling off your power steering system. Plus a manual rack will give you better road feel! I paid about $120 shipped for mine. You can always mod your power rack to be manual, but it seemed like more trouble than it was worth. There are some good write ups on that process if you decide to go that route. I don't like looping lines and having unnecessary components hanging around. Most people seem to like the manual steering feel better, and it really helps clean up the engine bay.
