FMIC color change
The vert has to be hush hush and I don't want everyone knowing im boosting. Can a FMIC be painted black and keep its same cooling properties.

Any kind of coating will effect heat transfer. I don't know the exact numbers, but personally I wouldn't paint the cooler except for the end tanks. What you may want to do is simply brush on some black paint on the face of the cooler, leaving everything else unpainted. If you are careful not to clog the holes, it should work out well.

You can use radiator paint to paint it black. Supposedly some skyline guys painted their FMIC with this paint and it gave them cooler temps and a little bit more power. I don't like shiny FMICs either and would rather have a black one so ricers think its a radiator.

where do I find rad paint.
hard to believe it gives cooler temps.
I will be running alcohol injection at 9 psi and above so its really not that big of an issue

Maybe put some kind of mesh screen on the front end up infront of the intercooler and paint it black. I don't know if this would affect how much air got to the intercooler. I wouldn't think it would.

On my friends car we powdercoated the end tanks black. you can take that screen fiber (black) and wrap the IC twice with it, that should remove any obvious lines from the core.

black will actually radiate heat more readily than any other color or raw metal. THAT is why radiators are painted black. I think there is a company called Eastwood or something that makes specific paints for rad/IC.

Most of the guys down here run blacked-out FMIC's.  We don't use that special paint from Eastwood, but it off-the-shelf flat black doesn't affect performance that much.

Hmm.. Painting a material to increase it's cooling ability?
I know black absorbs while white deflects. Also I would figure that adding a coating onto the material(intercooler) would act as a sort of insulant. Although millimeter thick it still coats the fins which tranfer the heat.
There are crazy things out thtere though. GM had done some testing with Temperature resistant heat a few years ago. My friends dad is a Body man and they came to him a few years ago.
They had him spray 2 hoods. 1 with a white temp resistant paint and 1 with black resistant paint. He could only do 3 even swipes to make the test equal.
I guess the paint actually decreased under hood temps. Weird stuff.

Spearco tested painted and powder-coated intercoolers, and found no measurable difference with any color. I guess that means you can paint it however you like. I have even seen the Spearco name stenciled on the intercooler of sponsored racers.
