FLYWHEEL/CLUTCH(suggestions)

The engine is a s5 13bt.the transmission is from s4 TII.
i think that i should use s4 flywheel, clutch, plate in order to avoid problems.am i right or the s4 and s5 stuff is interchageable?
there is also an option of using rear counterweight with lightweigth flywheel.what is your suggestion in type and brand?
is there any possibility of the engine become unstable ,while deccelarating, when using very light flywheels?

I think if you're using an S5 engine, you'll need the S5 clutch, counterweight, and flywheel. because the flywheel and clutch is not bolted to the transmission, its bolted to the engine.

You either need a S5 flywheel or an aftermarket flywheel where you need the S5 auto transmission rear counterweight. The RX-7 store does not differentiate S4/5 clutches so you may be okay with either. Mazdatrix says; "The stock 86-88 clutches are 240mm, the 89-92's are 235mm - don't ask us why. All performance clutches we offer for 86-92 Turbo's are 240mm."

i was thinking that there isn't any difference in the rear section between s4 and s5 engines,so with fitting a s4 flywheel and clutch i would possibly avoid any transmission compatiblity problems.

The reason you need an S5 flywheel is because it has a milled-in counterweight which is specially sized to balance the weight of the lighter S5 rotors.

thanks, that helped.but, what is happening with the ligher s5 rotors balance when using a lightweight flywheel with an external rear counterweight?
what do you think is the perfect flywheel(including counterweight) weight for easy acceleration and stamble decceleration?

To the best of my knowledge, the only lightened flywheels that have external counterweights are stock ones that have been modified to be light & strengthened. (not common) Apparently you can use the stock FD flywheel which is 19lbs compared to 22lbs for the S5. Aftermarket lightned steel is typically 17lbs.

If you want a flywheel cheap, Ausis sell lightened flywheels for as little as 180AUD. (1USD = 1.6AUD) There will be a big shipping cost & maybe customs.

To buy a flywheel in the US you're looking @ $400 USD.

I would personally go for a lightweight steel flywheel and not the really light aluminum version. You have to drive the car on the street so I see the middle of the road compromise being a performance upgrade that is still a little bit comfortable, as far as starting off from a stop with the clutch is concerned.

So only the stock flywheels have the counterweight? Then I guess you would need a S5 rear counterweight from a car that had an automatic transmission.

Sometimes you find lightweight flywheels on Ebay. I look there a lot for them. There was a light steel flywheel with a clutch (forgot the brand, but it was a performance brand) that went for $160ish a month or so ago. I should have bought it.

i know that aussies sell cheap flywheels.rpm performance sells a 5.5kg one for 160au$.but i'm afraid of the car won't be driveable on the street.
the idea of using a fd one sounds good.i hope there wouldn't be any problem using a s5 clutch and plate.cause,i dont want to get involved with the pull type one from fd's.
i was thinking of buying a centerforce dual-friction set.anyone with experience on that?

I don't think rpmperformance sells the 5.5kg ($170) one anymore, I know they sell a 6.3kg flywheel and that is not counting the counterweight. I think that puts you ~17lbs.

Here is another and it includes ring gear for $210.

do you believe that a 6,3kg(without counterweight) flywheel should be affordable for daily driving?
