just went and got a s4 gtu for 450$ body is in good condition as well as basically everything but the motor(rear apex seal went out, or atleast what the prev. owner said.) i wanted to see what you guys think my best bet would be to do.
i am going to be looking for a good running motor from someone on here (mabe ported if it is for sale) and build up the car. or mabe i should just send my motor to atkins and have it rebuilt?

either way i will be getting another blown or running block sooner or later for a complete build up. and no matter what i will be staying n/a. i will have about a 5-6k(mabe more) budget but that will also go into thew rest of the car not just the motor. if anyone is selling a good condition motor i will be in the market for one very soon. i will also be looking for some other parts but i will just go post that list in the wtb threads. if anyone has any info on the major weak points in the suspension of these vehicles and or frame i would love to read about it. i am sorry if there is already tons of post about those topics and if you could just point me in the right directon i would be very greatful. thanks in advance to all of you here. i will see if i can get pics of it up but dont count on it....camera is missing.

Woohoo, the S4 GTU is one of my favorites!

Just get your current engine rebuilt with the stock ports or a very mild street port, and that should be fine unless you plan on some type of serious racing above the autocross level. It is not worth spending $10K to piece together a GT race level NA engine for street use, especially since noise restrictions would negate most of the power mods. My stock S4 NA engine worked just fine for steet driving and autocrossing, and my former race car with its stock-block S3 12A engine was once again one of the fastest cars at the DGRR event this year.

There are not any weak points. If your car has all original parts, it is probably time to replace all of the bushings, all of the mounts, driveshaft, LSD clutches, springs and shocks/struts.

The rear subframe around the rear wheel wells like to rust. But, depends where the car was from and depending on if it was winter driven.

ya, i was under the car today taking the whole exhaust off the whole car is as stock as a rock with all orginal(or seems orginal) parts. gunna need to do a total replacement of most of it. i saw that coming though and was planning on it anyway. as for the motor it should be out sometime soon i also am going to be working the body over getting every dent and small rust spots out of it. hopefully when i send the motor to atkins or someone they can reuse some of it(obviously i dont want crappy used stuff) but i also dont want a huge bill for a n/a motor. brakes are also gone lol. BUT it does have a new lsd and fuel pump yay cost on car covered already

as for a goal on the car...i never listed it on the orginal post. i am basically fully restoring this car and making a track attack car i have a dd and this will be my fun car only so noise and very stiff suspension is not a worry to me. i do go to club meets though so i guess i shouldent have a car to loud to were the whole police force will be waiting for me :P. i am not to sure what class i will want to compete in yet with it though.
