first fuel light, now gas gauge? (don't work)

Hey everyone,

I've put about 1000 miles on the RX-7 since I got her, and all has been great, but, earlier this week, the low fuel light came on at a half tank and has been on steady since.

Then, yesterday, we got a very hard rain and the car was parked partially under the roof of the house, so, water was just pouring on the top, and I got water in the rear floorboards (not sure if this has anything to do with it). But, vacuumed it out, dried the car out real good, cleaned the drain tubes out, and, now my gas gauge doesn't work. Its just pinned on empty, and I just put 5 gallons in it yesterday before the big rain, which usually takes it to about a 1/4 tank.

So, any ideas? I don't understand the fuel light coming on solid but the gauge working...but, now the light is still on and the gauge is on empty...so, sender maybe?

Everything else in the car is working as it should.

Thanks in advance.

There's a chance the water is causing a faulty connection in the Rear harness connector found under the rear hatch carpet near the driver speaker. This part of the Rear harness features a plug which connects to the fuel pump pigtail. There are four wires in this connector of two plugs and the Rear harness wires are Blue for power to the pump, Black for ground and White/Red and White/Green which are for the fuel warning light and the fuel gauge. Check this connector and clean/dry it up and reconnect the two plugs and perhaps use a little dielectric grease. W/key to on if the W/R wire were grounded the low fuel light should turn on.

Fixed! Did that plug you spoke of and still nothing :/

But, pulled the fuel pump access plate in the trunk and removed and cleaned the ugly looking ground and, everything works as it should now. The light and the gauge

So problem solved. Thank you for the help, though.
