fire killed my engine got questions for rebuilt
friday was a sad day for my 91 coupe, a fire killed just about everything on the passenger side of the engine bay. i was able to put it out before it spread with a garden hose in front of someones house and now im waiting for maz-max to quote me prices on how much to fix it. im assuming i need a whole new long block with just about all the sensors, does anyone know how much this should cost? im debating if i should have them put in a na block or find a turbo block to put in i know it wont be cheap espically from a mazda place. i know i could find a jspec tII long block with just about everything i need to convert for at most 3k to 4k but i have to pass emissions here in houston, could a jspec with a catalyst pass emissions? im sorry if these are a bunch of repeat questions but my search yielded little info on what im looking for.
just for some info, i cant find any decent s5's for sale in houston and NO turbo's of any year...just 3rd gens...which would be great buy, but i love fc's more and i think a tII is a very rare car here.

not sure exactly, looks like somehow fuel leaked out of the primary injector rail and caught fire on something...not sure though. it doesnt matter to me really, im more excited about finally getting a new engine that wont have so many troubles as mine did. i think the compression was getting low anyways. im looking at the brighter side of the event...new engine or turbo engine...

from what I know in regards to jdm honda engines here in cali. as long as they have all the US smog equipment and ecu etc it will pass smog here in cali. assuming that is in working order.

no a Jspec motor will not pass emissions unless you retro fit it with your aspec bits and piceses (sp?)
and yes the most likly reason the car caught fire would be the pulsation dampener leaking fuel

yeah, im thinking it was that pulsation damperner, my mech. said thats what it looked like. oh well just another victim of it. i urge everyone to check their fuel rails on a regular basis as i had no warning of this. it drove awesome the day before it happened, then she went up in a very black cloud of smoke.
as for the engine, the radiator hoses melted and the fire really put a hurting on the front engine cover, i think it would be wise to replace the engine while everything else gets replaced...it is expensive but i can say i think i love my car enough to give it a new motor and new life haha. it had 123,xxx on it...so its about time to get a new one anyways. i dont want to see any more s5's go to the junkyard

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
IF you turn out to want a complete s5 NA longblock, I can help. I'd still want your core, though. I have several complete longblock cores in great shape, and I can rebuild to spec and assemble everythign for you, so you can drop it in and go.
