Bottom line is.....the ones who only go half way with a CAI, just don't have the skillzzzz to go that extra distance to make it past the metal and make it TRUE cold air.
I have just made mine. Total bill....38 green ones and guess where the filter sits......

Just got back from ABF.. drove for 2 hours in pouring rain!!... With the filter still mounted in front of the wheel i had NO problems whatsoever. You can deffinatly tell you gain alot of low end power... the car just wants to GO down around 2000 rpm.
Once again NO problems at all with driving in pouring rain for 2 hours!!

For those with the filter in the front wheel well, are you running without the brake duct? I thought that was the only way it would really get dirty. My CAI has the filter in the front wheel well, and I had just enough room to put the brake duct back in protecting it from dirt and splashes.

Has anybody ever checked how hot the air is when it enters the TB? I noticed very little difference until I went to a hard pipe that I wraped with exhaust wrap.
I don't remember the numbers now, it's been almost three years. It was a mild day, between 60 and 70, the temps were something like 100 at the filter and 125 at the TB with the hard pipe and no wrap. then I did the cold air and at the filter the temps were the same as ambient, but at the TB were the same as without the cold air. So a couple of layers of manifold wrap and I was only like 5 degrees over ambient at the tb. It's not as pretty as the shiny pipe, but works much better.

Damn, you guys overanalyze stuff.. I'd rather keep the filter near the stock location so I don't have to waste the time and money on something that's nearly worthless.. Hell, I just have a filter connected directly to my turbo, and it's fast enough

Remember that oem air intake hose is ribbed inside to reduce air noise which impedes air flow. Also autozone has a heat protector to go around your filter to shield it from the engine bay side. Then reroute your Air intake Temp sensor to either the rear of the AFM by using a 1/8 pipe tap or run it infront of the AFM hwere the cone filter attaches to the AFM. What this does is tell the ECU that the air is coler or denser and will give a better fuel delivery.
