After having it lie on my couch for about two months, I finally put it on yesterday. For the past two days I have been running around with just the header.
Yeah, its loud. Almost as loud as everyone here said it would be. My friend and I couldn't decide whether or not it was as loud as his x-piped chevelle. It did get the job done though, revving at corvettes, firebirds, and mustangs to see shocking expressions they made. Took it to 7k next to a couple of ricers that were preparing to race at a stoplight, oh man, the look of horror on their faces gave me the biggest grin.
Performance wise, I did feel a nice kick. My ports were non functioning so I had to play around with them open and closed.
Open: Holy crap the car was slow, up until I hit about 35mph, then she wanted to take off screaming, pretty cool.
Closed: I was taking a corner light like and broke the tires loose. After gunning it, it REALLY took of, up until about 4000rpms when it felt like I didn't have enough gas for it.
With closed ports I raced my friend in his mom's 2002 ford tarus DOHC. If my 5/6 ports would have open I would have smoked him.
Did this to my 88SE AT
mods:
K&N Intake (Cylinder)
Removed airpump/PS belts
Pacesetter Header
Today I am going to put my airpump and acutators back in, but I am debating whether or not to gut the cat. I am afraid my 5/6 ports might not work. I lubed them up real well with a antirust lube (not wd40) and they worked a lot better than before (one didn't even work; I wonder why my car felt slower) The cat it attached to a y-pipe and two crappy midas mufflers.
How much HP does the cat really take away? (Shooting flames would be nice too)
While writing this, I figure I should just gut the cat and do the $10 air pump mod and put some epoxy on the turn valve so it doesn't vibrate loose.
:EDIT
I remember reading somewhere that the airpump shuts off at a certain high RPM, is this true?
