Oh yes, i agree that even the 4-lug braking system on a FC is still superior to most cars, and can still bring the car to a stop in a very respectable time. I just thing the bigger braking system is something worthwhile, since it is a fairly easy upgrade.

Well I don't have my painting process thread any longer to post in so I will just pick up where I left off with this thread.

There are overspray problems on the car. I need to fix them with some black bumper color like the stuff I used on the window surrounds.

After about an hour of scrubbing down the passenger side wheel wells, they both looked like this:

My plan is to mask the suspension and brake line components and paint over all the yellow and old red.

And to anyone wondering just who I am, to put a face behind the handle of 88IntegraLS, here I am. I am feeling very drained because I work at a mill, babysit idiots while running a forklift, am trying to get a second job so running around networking for that, going through the residency status affidavit process for college in a few months, etc. and of course working on the car for an hour or two every night. All work and no play!!

I will not quit until this car is done!! Discipline is what it is all about fellas.

Ha ha. I need an ambitious woman who is not shallow and that is not easy to find in women my age.

I started getting ready to paint the windshield frame and fresh air vent grille tonight. I wet sanded the grille with soapy water and 600 grit, wiped it dry, wiped it with rubbing alcahol and then a tack rag and gave it two coats of Bumper Color.

While waiting for the alcahol and later, coats of paint to dry on the grille, I began masking the window frame.

Mods, I am sorry for dragging this on and on. I know that the thread was done but there is still a lot going on to polish off the paint job so I hope you guys don't mind . . . just pm me if I am using up too much bandwidth.

Time to paint the wheel wells. After they had dried for a day after scrubbing them down, I masked off all areas to not become bumper black.

Then I sprayed down the wells with a couple coats a few minutes apart.

And now the fun part, removal of the masking and admiring the new look.

Now for the windshield frame. Here is the finished masking:

Here it is after being coated:

As you can see just by looking at the wheel wells, cleaning up the small rough spots of a car can really add to the overall appearance. Tip: anyone considering painting your car but not ready to take the plunge, do your wheel wells first. If you decide not to do the whole car you still have made an improvement to its appearance. The paint I used here is $4 a can "bumper color" and I think it will take a few cans for all four wells.

Wow... That looks really good. I admire somebody who does their own paint job to their car. My dad and I tried to paint my brother's 240sx... but apparently he didn't remember how to do it that well after he hadn't painted a car in about... 30 years. Whoops...

Here she is, finally finished and put back together.

This concludes the series, "Pics of an FC paint job". I thank you all for tuning in and watching me paint my car.

Keep an eye out for my next thread, "Amateur engine building" . . . the last series of threads covering my efforts to transform a base model FC into my own brand of NA beastiality . . .

Aren't 5 lug's less weight anyway?

I started a thread on Race Car Tech asking about unsprung and rotating weight, and a few people, one who I know personally from auto-xing, recommended swapping my four lug hubs to GXL equipment. I asked about the weight issue and was told that the larger brake calipers are aluminum as opposed to iron, saving some weight.

Thinking things over, I have decided that you are right and vert wheels with five lug hubs are about the best compromise there is for an NA FC. What weight difference that the five lug hubs and brakes have over four lug basers would be offset by the .5 pound savings from the vert wheels. I just never thought that the two hub combinations were so close in all-up weight.

So thanks, everyone, for persuading me to leave my base model hubs in the scrap heap. I may actually take some track driver school courses in the future and it would be a good idea to already have the big brakes installed.

Bravo. I cannot wait to see what you do with that engine......so many possibilities. Care to share with us a few of your plans for the engine or is that something you wanna kepp under wraps for now?

I will rebuild my S4 NA six port 13B, but port the housings, sixth port sleeves, intake manifold, throttle body, black elbow, airflow meter and possibly replace the long rubber tube after I build my airbox, to be fed by the passenger side nose duct.

The port job will avoid creating more overlap than the stock aux port has, but it will create more duration and much better bowl shape and runner smoothness. Porting is not always "bigger is better" for a street driven car such as this one. Similar ports have been done and have given great power and torque (thanks to no added overlap) while allowing 25+ MPG on the freeway. Having the car in the 2400-2500 pound range helps the gas mileage, as does having no boost. The port in my sig is a practice port that I did, showing how my primary port was opened upwards (to close later) while opening just a tad earlier than before, essentially at the same time as the secondary ports. As you can see, I put some time into shaping the bowl. This is important and no template can show you how . . . so I will show the process in the thread.

The exhaust will be stock other than the RB streetable header to replace the stock manifold.

Thanks . . . the control arms actually looked that good with only a scrub down with soapy water and a brush. Forged alloy always has that look, nice and shiny.

First the 3 spoke wheel looks a ton better than the 2 spoker.

thrid the 5 lug conversion is awsome I am still trying to sell the subframe I have the lsd has already been sold though. Wink Wink. oh and I have the front as well.

Good Job Jeff. Lates matt22

That's REALLY nice.

Quality work, there.

Maybe I should respray my car myself... hmmm

I'm taking my car down to bare metal, too... everyone tells me just to scuff it but that's retarded... I want to do the job RIGHT and not have this paint peel/chip/crack/whatever for another 15 years. I think only I can do the work the car deserves, just because nobody else cares enough.

Terrh- as you may have read earlier in the thread, you will cause yourself a lot more headache by going down to bare metal- even Integ88 said he would have done it differently had he known.

Just a freindly reminder!
