Final check before getting T2 swap underway....

This may or may not have been previously discussed but I cant recall this issue so I'll shoot:

I have a S4 NA and plan on converting to S5 T2 engine. Do I need to rewire a dash harness to get the gauges to work correctly? If so, im guessing this means removal of the dash and quite a bit of work under there? If this is the case, Im just gonna go S4 T2. Also, do I need a new slave cylinder to match the T2 driveline or will the NA's work?

So far I have the following items as needed: T2 wiring harness, ECU, boost sensor, hood, fuel pump.

if you are using a TII tranny then you need a TII slave cylinder. they are relatively cheap.

section #3 talks about different series in different cars and the hassle it is.

since you already have an S4 then i would go that route. should be easier. definately decide now before getting anything else. S5 TII ECU's and wiring harnesses sell pretty well so you should be able to unload it easily

Thanks for the info. So pretty much, if I were to go with S5 engine and wiring harness, id need to rewire all the sensors and such?

well, the S5 ECU and wiring will not actually match up to the under-dash wire harness of an S4. so, you either pull the dash (just did it for interior swap, tedious) and put in an S5 under dash harness and guages and other electronics, or, splice into your S5 wiring harness and try and match everything with the S4......................yeah, good luck.

thats why i would just hunt down the S4 stuff. shouldn't be too hard.

I have an S5 GTU and i am getting all S5 stuff so it will plop right in.

I see. So pretty much, unless I wanna do a lot of splicing or dash removal S4 is best choice?

thats what i would/am doing.
the benifits of an S5 are pretty small compared to the hassle it would be.
besides, you can always put the S5 turbo unit on the S4 later without really an issue, plus a lot of folks like the lower compression rotors of the S4 13BT to allow for higher boost. if yer into high boost

Definatly go series 4, and here's what you'll need
S4 Gauge cluster (if you don't go aftermarket boost gauge)
TII Fuel pump
TII hood (for stock intercooler)
TII brake booster line (often forgotten, but can be rigged up from the NA one)
S4 TII AFM
S4 TII pressure sensor/boost sensor
TII clutch
TII Tranny/throwout bearing/pilot/etc (better to do it while you're there!)
TII driveshaft
TII rear-end
TII halfshafts
S4 TII engine (of course )
s4 engine harness
Inlet duct of some sort (either make your own, or setup the stock)
30pack of beer
haynes manual
bunch of friends

That should do it!

hey, SonicRat, what need to be done to the NA booster line so ya don't have to hunt a TII one? isn't the TII one longer or somethin?

Actually, it's shorter, and it goes down some and out... I have no idea, I just used my NA one and flipped the metal banjo rod for the brake booster upside down and hooked it up like that.. Allegedly theres a check valve so it doesn't see positive pressure or something like that, but I'm not using it, but to be safe I always mention it. If you're looking to get rid of your 89 TII harness/ECU let me know what you're selling it for (to the guy who started the thread) I'm looking for them

I have sourced the T2 hood, fuel pump, slave cylinder, engine, clutch and assoc parts, and flywheel but still need the other stuff so if anyone has them and email or PM me

LOL Depending on how quickly i can get a hold of a good T2 driveline, i think I may be done in about 4-6 weeks from now.
Due to past experiences though, I think i'll source my parts elsewhere.

my biggest problem is just waiting for the parts, you guys ever seen the south forum? i got tons of awesome resources for gettin it together

hopefully with tax check in a month i'll have a Jspec and then a good rebuild of it.

I'm hoping for just a rebuild on my s5 block. Stupid thing's pushing oil now and is a hard starter, and so forth. What's the 'south' forum? Ni5mo needs to get a series 5, then we can all bitch about the shitty OMP's and how we wish to hell we'd got series 4 instead to do the swap on :-)

haha, go check the south section of this forum, there are 3 extraordinary rotary specific shops within about a 50mile radius.
plus its an extremely active group. we roll, like twice a week or more. i do when my car is running..............can't wait for the swap

That should do it!
You forgot the knock computer if he goes the S4 route (on the S5 the knock computer is built into the ECU, on the S4 it is a stand alone unit).

And he will need a clutch slave, T2 flywheel and T2 starter is he is doing the drive line swap as well.

Doh! Knew i forgot something. But usually the flywheel is included with the engine, and I always forget that damn knock control box as I have a series 5, tho I flat out forgot starter and slave
