Few questions about some 2G RX7 I found.
My friend might get a 2G Rx7. We found some within a pretty good range for really cheap. From prices ranging from $750 (locked up motor) to $5000. What are your opinions on buying the $750 one? How much would it usually take to get it running again? When fixing a rotary motor, do most people buy new engines or do they just replace the rotar and internals? Any information would be great.

Most people just buy a new motor. which can run you anywhere from 1-3 grand, depending on whether it's used, rebuilt, jspec, whatever. You can get a rebuild kit, and assuming you know your way around auto mechanics, it's supposebly a simple job. Here's what I think. If you buy the $750 RX7, expect to drop a couple grand to get it running good again. I would just buy one that runs, and make sure you know how to check it out right, to make sure it hasn't been abused(search on this subject for more info). Good luck.

Since you have a range of cars to look at. Go look at them and decide on that. If the one for $5000 is over priced and you find one in similar condition for cheaper go with that.
If you or someone you know are handy with auto mechanics then you might want to think about getting a cheap one thats a little rough around the edges. This is cheaper but requires more work out of you. Since few mechanics know how to work on rotaries you would have to do most of the work yourself.

I am pretty good with 4cy engines. I can do internal work on them so I am gussing rotary work wouldnt be much harder (if not easier). I plan to watch some videos on rotary rebuilds and stuff and just looking around on rx7 forums for the info I need. Are there any main problems that I should look at when buying that $750 one with the locked engine?
