A few problems with my FC..

Car: 1988 Turbo 5 speed

Mods (that matter):

Dual belt alternator pulley
Short shifter
Turbo back 3" exhaust (with cat)
Hks Pod filter
Trust FMIC
Knightsports FCD
Extra oil cooler
Alluminium radiator
Big fuel pump (It's louder than my exhaust..)
2-way Mazdaspeed LSD
OS Giken Twin plate clutch
HKS Bov
Bigger injectors (I think..)

Problem 1: Hunting at idle

Car idles at around 750rpm.. but constantly goes from 700-800rpm

When i turn headlights on, idle drops to 400 and hunts.. sometimes stalls.

There is also a bit of hesitation through the rev range

Boost gauge needle shakes at idle.. shows 0.5bar at WOT

Problem 2: Engine stalls when i take it out of gear at speed/high rpm

Cruising at 60km/h.. chuck it in neutral to coast to a stop, engine will stall.

Doesn't stall when i keep it in gear and just brake until it's below 2k rpm.

Problem 3: Vibration through shifter

At certain speeds/rpm I get a loud vibration through the shifter. I'm unsure of what brand it is or where it came from, as it was already there when i got it.

What should I look at to stop it?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going to check that the TPS is still in spec in the morning (I'm in australia :P)

I checked for vacuum leaks with carby cleaner, but couldn't find anything.

I swapped a stock fuel pump in, and the car barely ran, so I think I may have aftermarket injectors? Thoughts people?

Still using standard ECU.

Thanks, Bryan

Heres a random pic after a daewoo crashed into me and destroyed my R-Magic front end

Check the TPS and set it, and test the BAC valve per the instructions in the Factory Service Manual.

If you have bigger injectors, do you have some way to control them?

Nope.

Adjusted TPS- It was at 1.10 > 5.30 @ WOT, its now at 1.00 > 5.15 @ WOT

Seem's to have made a bit of a difference, idle feels a bit smoother, havn't had a chance to take it for a drive yet though.

Adjusted idle up a little to 800rpm, it holds it fairly well.

Checked battery voltage while car was running- fluctuates from 13.4v to 14v @ idle with no accesories on. drops to 13v > 13.6v with headlights/fans etc on

With car off, battery holds 12.4v.

Is my alternator dieing?

Your alternator sounds fine to me. When your alternator dies, it typically goes really low or up higher to about 15-16 volts. At least thats been my experience, and I've had 4 alternators go out on me in 5 years.
