Question FD vs. FC

Although the FC is the older version RX-7, does the FC posses any advantages over the FD? (beside being way cooler )

more owners, more lowcost aftermarket accessories, cheaper entry cost, more models to choose from, convertible, more "built" owners/modders,

weight? speed? hp? durability? .. is the FC lighter and more nimble than the FD? i hear that the FC is the heaviest of all rx7's.

the s5 is a 100+ pounds heavier than a FD and s4 FC

The FD is better in just about every way. Why wouldn't it be? It's a natural progression of technology and improvement.

On the other hand if I ever got a FD, it would definitely be converted to non-sequential twins if not single. General mantainence is more expensive, and parts are more expensive. I don't consider the FD to be a great daily driver. It's a racecar you can drive on the street. The FC does ok as a daily, it's a street driven car that you can race.

The FC has the FD beat in the durabilitiy department(our engines last about 50k miles longer than theirs do) but make no mistake, the FD is a marvel of engineering. A purebred if you will. I would be hard to top it in any categories no matter what comparable car from the era you were comparing it to.

The FD is just a better car I'm most aspects. Its ok to admit that...

...doesn't mean we can't love our FC's and they are still very nice cars in their own right.

i believe that the FC is more simplistic than the fd. i read that it has 60 less vaccuum hoses than the fd. less parts = less problems? but, im sure those 60 hoses are put in the fd for a good reason.

Yeah, its sequential twin turbo setup adds a bunch of hoses.

lol the FDs great but I dont think the FC should lay flat in comparision. I guess thats the mentality around this forum which leads to everyone being content with mediocracy.

The FD has double wishbone & PPF. Those are the only two primary differences I see between it & the FC Also, the cost to modify an FC on a part per part basis even using the same suppliers is significantly less then the FD. I've had no problem getting a kill on a similarly modded FD.

my FC is faster/handles better than my FD (not for long though)

i just got done with the vac line swap on the FD. My FC has 5 but my FD has............um........alot......even after emisisons are out.

I think so without a doubt.

Seeing as you're in LA, let me know if you're in the OC area. But theres also plenty of well sorted FCs in the LA area too.

i don't know about beating an FD....I raced one once and all he had was a downpipe and exhaust....I kept up with him (about a carlength behind) until we hit 140 then he was gone......What mods would you think are necessary to beat an FD? Assuming the FD has mild exhaust mods.

Oh, there's no question an FC can take on an FD in a straight line. But then again, "properly modded" CRX's can take an FD on in a straight line. The FC and FD motors are basically the same. The 13BREW is a little stronger and can be pushed a little farther than the 13BT, but in general, they're going to perform almost similarly with similar mods(i.e. turbo upgrade, etc).

Anything is possible, just depends on who has more time/money into their car

With the initial cost difference between the 2, you could put a lot of work into an FC (2-10000 FC vs 10-20000FD), but the FD is definately a faster starting point.

EDIT: MtnRacer said what I was thinkin'

you know the FD is did something right when you walk into a store and there is a 1993 FD on the cover of a 2004 import magazine.

i love the FD's, they are awesome cars, look great, make lots of cars look bad.... but my FC... something about stock hood scoop, stock dual exhaust, and just the overall look of the FC... imo the FC was ahead of its time when it came out in 86... there was nothing quite like it... the FD's almost have the same kind of "before their time" look, but the FC just strikes me as amazing, especially being released in 86, when all other cars were A) economy cars or B) underpowered gas guzzling V8's that couldn't handle... just an amazing car that FC, and it will always be my favorite... my dream car was my 87 TII, and i got it, and for a while my dream car was a FD, but then i got my 88 TII and realized just how monstrous a car the FC was

well the turbo model is more durable. not neccasaraly the engine, but the drive train inparticular. i know alot of FD guys put in the type R turbo tranny and clutch type LSDs.

FD is a better car overall(better chasis, better overall design, better brakes, better aerodynamic design, etc), but I'm not ashamed to say that since it came out 7 years after FC did. If it wasn't better than FC, then it would just have been a piece of ****. FD should be better car than FC if Mazda was doing their job!

Extremely similar. I've had people mistake someone else's 944 for my RX-7.

I hear the handling is very different though.
