fd torsen differential
#3
I would never run a torsen unit after I blew up a Quafe unit.
Torsen units act as an open diff when there is little to no traction on one wheel. So if you are on ice, it will just be a one-legged-tire-fryer just like an open unit. The only time you will get a limited slip is when there is some type of resistance on both wheels.
I was running on thunderhill in my old GT Datsun 510 when I clipped the rumble strip, lifting the rear of my car for a fraction of a second. This was enough to send the inside tire into a free spin when the wheel came incontact with the pavement, it almost instantly locked the diff, sending a shock wave through the whole car. thankfully the torsen unit blew into pieces, and nothing else on my car was destroyed. If you copy and paste the addy below you can see some pics of the damaged unit.
Sure Quafe has a GREAT warrenty, but I am sorry, why would I want to replace my diff with one that I would break again. I ran a clutch LSD out of a Subaru wagon for the next couple years after, and never once did I have ANY issues with it. I say down with Torsen LSD's!
