FD alternator conversion and FD alt questions...
#101
Ok I am not sure but I don't think Second Gen RX-7's have an Alternator warning light. To my knowledge if the alternator is bad all the lights will come on(warning lights).
Can anybody comment on whether or not we have such a wire or not?

heh, the point is not so much that there is a light as there is something that does the same FUNCTION as the light.
I have been doing reading on the subject, it looks like mazda agreed with me that a single lightbulb as the sole means of passing the starting surge to the alternator was silly, at least on the 87 model.
the 87 DOES have an alternator light, according to the manuels I have looked at, but it is NOT all by itself like the 92 setup, there are a couple of other indicator lights that are wired in there, and the TACHOMETER shares some circuitry with the alternator light.
is your tachometer acting funny when you first start the car up ?

OMG!!!! I am not going to even read the whole thread. WHY ARE U HAVING SO MUCH PROBLEM WITH AN ALTERNATOR!
ARE YOU SERIOUS! Santiago. If you can not fix your charging system. Step away from the FC I repaet step away from the FC.
If you don't know the voltage that is coming out just get it freaking tested!

Can you let me know where your reading all this? FSM? So I can catch up with ya.
the basic alternator theory is what I have learned over the years in self defense
to find out that you DO have a alternator light I looked up the bulb rating in the list of bulbs, there it is 1.2w.
um, what is FSM ?
I am using this as an excuse to learn more about the mazda way of doing things, as this is my first rotary and I am finding out BUNCHES of new things all the time.

OK, this topic is about done. I'm pretty convinced that it's only purpose is to increase the post count of a particular member. Anyone with half a brain would have realised that the alternator is working as designed by now. Any further posts MUST be worthwhile.

Motion for some thread-lock action, Aaron?
This is the only older thread that was on the 1st page after the 3 days I was away... And the same still remained. No new information, and the alternator was still fine..

this is new information to me.
in particular I am curious as to why mazda would design the part to operate normally in what is absolutely a failure mode for every other alternator I have ever seen or heard of ?
this exposes a large blank spot in my experience that frightens me.

honegod- THankyou.
Aaron cake and everyone else. This is why I keep bumping this thread. Because it doesn't make any sense that I have this problem.
And BTW I DO NOT have the throttle body mod done on my car. I never finished the thing because I didn't trust JB weld so that can not be the reason it is not working poperly.

Listen guys. If your not going to provied info that is helpfull get out of here and don't come back. That way you don't have to deal with any of this. Aaron I don't see how the GM, FORD, and other alternators that are in my falimy's cars would act differently than this one. They are all based on the same principle. wrong?
My FC alternator still doesn't act the way the FD one does. So obviously ther eis something that I need to find or change in the car to fix it. This is the reason for this thread. It is dealing with something technical about the FC and is not a ploy to get more posts. I could do that by posting in every god forsaken thread in the section and incread my post cound faster than this thread would ever move.

Ok this is what I am going to do as my last bit of effort to fix this problem:
I plan to do this from what I can remember right now- Undo all the cables from the battery to the starter, battery to ground, battery to the alt. The MAIN fuse cable will be undone and redone. I will clean my battery terminals and posts. Install NEW belts and tension them to ~1" of travel on the longest span. Instal a voltmeter from the parts store.
Is there anything else I am missing?
If the problem persists WHAT is left that could possibly cause this situation?

If I am missing ANYTHING that can be replaced that may be bad or going bad post it ASAP as I will be gone to do this after 3 PM today.
If you all can just list ALL of the charging system's components too just to make sure I know about all of them.
I know obviously about the following:
Battery, Alt, Terminals, Battery-starter positive cable, alt-batt positive cable, starter ground cable, battery ground cable, alt connector cables. Other than the above if I have missed anything please post about it.
BTW- Honegod from what I can tell from the diagram you posted up the alternator light is hooked up to one of the wires that are on the plug. I will also be re-doing those for a SECOND time to try and fix this. You also mentioned that the alternator light shares circuits with the tach or somthing in the guage cluster right? I have a spare one so I might just swap out my cluster and take the one from my parts car.
