FC's and tall people....
hey ya guys. 1st post woohoo lol, anyway, ive had a crush on fc's for a long time, and ive finnally gotten to a point where i can get one( had a few cars and bikes inculding my current mount, a low 11sec gsxr 750 hehe) and ive bin lurking on here for a few weeks and read a few times that tall perople and fc's dont mix to well, i dont have the oppitunity to sit in one at the moment.. im 6ft 5, or 196cm. how much problems am i gona have? ive had older celica's and supra's, my hair touches the roof liner but ive had no problems. can anyone compare the 2 cars (head hight wise) and now ill shut up other wise ill keep babbling ****....

let me be the first to welcome you to the forum then
haha, old celicas you say? well I am living proof then that the fc (at the very least the s4 turbo) has more headroom than a celica. I'm only 6 foot and my hair stuck out the sunroof on my 91 celica, but in my 87 TII my hair doesn't even touch the ceiling! I was very surprised by how well I fit into the car.

You'd most likely have to get a new steering wheel and seat, to make it work comfortably. My 6'1" friend can drive pretty comfortably in my car with the seat all the way back, although his knees sometimes hit the bottom of the stock steering wheel.
But I'd say in terms of sports cars, the FC has a pretty decent amount of room inside. You might be able to pull it off.

Im 6'3". In my 91 with a sunroof my hair brushes the roof. But for that to happen I have to lean the seat back. If I dont then I smack the roof squarely over every bump. Unfortunately having the seat leaned like that means that I have to stretch way out to use the steering wheel. When im cruising I tend to drive from the bottom of the steering wheel and not the top.
When i get in the twisties I bring the seat back up a LITTLE and scoot the seat forward about 1" or so. This helps bring my arms in closer, but its not a position I would suggest for daily driving. I still am able to stay low enough not to hit my head, but my knees get right up on the dash. I really wouldnt want to get in an accident in that position.
The only way you will know for sure is if you get in the car and try it out. I would suggest looking for a GTUs or an FC that doesnt have a sunroof. This should give you an extra inch or so of clearance for your head and would make a better seating position possible.

Overall height doesn't equate to torso height. A 6' 6"er with long legs and a short torso will probably still fit in an FC. I'm 6' 2" and I have to lean the seat back a bit more than I'd prefer in order to keep my head from hitting the roof. It'll be real interesting once I get a 7 and take it to the track. That said, I'll consider modifying the seat to sit lower. I've also driven both NA and TII models and the seat height seemed the same to me.

yeah, torso height vs leg height is what I was thinking too. That said though, I'm 6' and I didn't have much clearance with stock GXL seats and NO clearance with the aftermarket seats I bought. I recently got my hands on a pair of TII seats though and now I have plenty of room!

Oh yeah, I forgot how the seats work, too. In general, many, if not most, bucket seats slide back and forth parallel to the ground. I believe the seats in the 7 are angled so that it rises up when slid forward and lowers down when slid back. While I'm sure they did this with people of varying heights in mind, we still can't all fit.

Welcome.
I'm 6'1 and I love my FC. It's plenty roomy for daily driving.
I'm taking her on her first long trip next weekend though, we'll see how she performs and how comfortable I am. :-P
Cheers,
Cody

Driving an FC if you're tall has to do with a couple things...
1. Are you driving in a proper driving position (for sports car driving). If you are, you're going to not only loose a lot of headroom, you're also going to not be able to see the gauges very well, unless you get an aftermarket steering wheel and a long spacer.
2. Does your FC have a sunroof? If so, you're going to loose at least half an inch of headroom (I have to open the sunroof and drive with my head cockeyed when autocrossing, and I'm only 5'11").
If you get a fixed bucket seat with some proper low-down rails (namely, those by Bride), you should be able to gain an inch or more of headroom.
You're probably still not going to have much fun with the clutch and brake pedals though... although using a spacer for the clutch pedal stop and adjusting the brake pedals for maximum leg room can help a little bit (but you have to do it carefully or it won't work properly).
Either way, I personally think a smaller steering wheel and at LEAST a 65mm (80 is better) spacer is a bare minimum for driving an FC fast, comfortably. The stock steering wheel basically wants to fight your leg all day long, especially when you're on the brakes.

I'm 6'1", and I find the FC to be perfectly comfortable. I have disproportionately long legs, but I still have the seat a few clicks from all the way back. I have my steering wheel up all the way, and the seat reclined a bit.
I also have a 6'5" friend who has an FC, and he says he does not feel cramped in the car.
Both of us are particularly skinny guys, though. I would be more worried if you are wide, than tall.

To address the problem that Valkyrie mentions, regarding the steering wheel wanting to "fight one's legs all day long", I sit with my legs spread apart a pretty good distance. I'm sure Valkyrie's solution is better, but I don't have the time/money to do something like that right now, and find my way of driving to be perfectly usable for now.

A proper driving position means you're sitting as straight up as possible... and you need to be able to put your wrists on the top of the steering wheel, without pulling your shoulders off the seat back.
In my case, leaning waaay back does help when it comes to being able to see the gauges and with headroom, but then I can't get the car into 5th without leaning forward. And the steering wheel isn't as close as I like it, either.
Having to spread your legs to drive comfortably is retarded. A steering wheel, hub, and spacer can be bought for less than $200.

my brother is like 6'4" or 6'5" he was sporting a fro at one time and when he got out of the car it would be flat on top. but i think he fit alright. also verts seem to have less leg room.. so i would avoid a vert.

Another 6'3" guy here. Long torso and long legs. My 'vert and I did quite nicely together, but I recently discovered that I have a horrible "driving posture" (in my Dad's automatic Honda I would lean way back and have my left foot up on the speaker o.0)...Anyway, I fit into my FC well enough...never had to deal with a helmet though, so that may be a whole new story...
