FCs are cars! Not glass! (and mine is running great)
Just thought I'd point out that FCs, while a bit touchy, are NOT glass cars or spaceships or anything. A well maintained (that's important) FC is a very reliable car that's capable of a LOT of stuff. They're old cars, and things wear out, but if you replace those items, it'll treat you wonderfully.
And, mine is running just fine. The new master cylinder feels wonderful, I have 20k miles on my rebuilt engine with zero problems, I'm regularly getting 20-23mpg highway, and I love driving it.
... now back to your regularly scheduled "My FC is busted" threads.

You know, my FC is disabled right now but I've owned mine for 7 years now and I drive it like I stole it almost all the time. The 7 can dish out anything you throw at it. You just need to be willing to replace what you break. When I took out my N/A motor a couple weeks ago I found 4 broken tension bolts. I was driving the **** out of it until it finally blew a coolant seal.

Get into the Turbo group and you'll be eating those words.
So far I think I've replaced every main part in my car other than the interior parts/electronics
Everything but the coils and powersteering under my hood have been replaced.
I'll be replaicng a front differential mount this weekend.
I think the main problem with these cars is the electronics.
The stock ECU has problems like hesitation and then you multiply that problem with old heat brittled wiring.
Now an aftermarket EMS woudl make a car much more reliable(after tuning of course)

Mine gets me from point A to point B. It may not get there fast or idle perfect, but it gets me there and starts everytime (*knock on wood*). Can't ask for more.

I'm actually joining the turbo crowd this weekend. My new motor is almost done. I dont think I'll be eating my words actually. I can't think of a single part that I haven't already had to replace. If I blow it up, I'll fix it. The key for me is this. The FC is a lot cheaper of a car than I can afford. I make a nice salary so I just keep buying **** for my 7. The key is to live below your means.

Ha! I had a friend with an 87 TII that ran for 174K before he sold it, original engine, ran great, RB exhaust, and he drove the crap out of it on regular grade gas And he sold it about a year ago, and the new owner is STILL driving it!
I have another TII that I got for $200 and it's got about 174K on it also (coincidence, not the same car) and it runs great! Just got a broken rear diff mount to fix and gotta put a cat on it before inspection!
My 'vert (before MegaSquirt) got 28MPG on the highway! now that it is megasquirted, we're aiming for 30-32MPG!
Suds' 89 GTU has like, 220K on it :O

My car is just rolling 184k, and its running great, i just ened to replace the lower radiator house, and probably the waterpump. But othe rthan that, no problems. Just maintain the N/A's and theyll go.
My car is also faster than all my friends N/As, I don't know why.
The only things I've had to replace were clutch hydraulics, brake booster vacuum lines(One rotted through, manual brakes are awesome), my tranny(Due to ill maintenance, the stock fluid was in it at 170k and it took a ****), and a diff mount.

Until I started really modding it, my FC was my daily driver. In roughly 200K, it never gave me any real problems. Left me stranded a few blocks from home when the drivers heater hose blew (my fault for not changing it sooner) and again one Sunday afternoon when my alternator belt broke (again, my fault.)
If the cars are properly maintained, and not HACKED UP, then they can easily be daily drivers. This is of course true of any vehicle.
When modding a car, it's all about attention to detail. Cutting corners, getting cheap and not understanding what you are doing will always cause problems. There's no reason a highly modded car can't be a daily driver. Especially considering that mods are supposed to IMPROVE the car, and not make it worse.

^yeah to be fair This TII motor has lasted me over 35k in under the 2 years I've ran it(new motor). Drove to Sevenstock fine as well.
It's just a pain to replace every item until they're new. Once they're new you usually don't have those reliability problems because it's up to spec. It's just hard to get there since it's an older car.
Although the damn stock alternator blows. I think I will be switching mine out again with in a month(lasted 2 years). Car is running off of battery under 1k
Aaron reminded me. I gotta replace the heathose. It's going on 3 years now and the oil has seeped into it a bit(although I try to cover it during oil changes for protection)
