Which FC3S weighed the least?

The base model with no sunroof, ps, ac, 4 lug (obviously). Imo the sport model with no sunroof is a better platform to start off with, being the fastest na, aero package, 5 lug, tii brakes, etc.

Yeah, that would prob be the best way to go about it, unless you current car is super clean. Even if you spend a little more getting a gxl or sport model, keep in mind you will have to spend money getting the parts to swap in, and that doesn't even take into consideration the time and effort it takes. Although if you have plenty of time and like projects, you could just do the swap and gain lots of experience and insight on how the car works.

Our shop has weighed a few FC's over the years, most in street trim came to 2850-3100 depending on the year and package.
We were pleasantly surprised to find our '89 GTUs was at 2721lbs with a full tank of fuel, spare/jack/tools, and all stock everything else (battery, exhaust, etc.) including optional A/C, rear seats 2+2, and full stereo system. The car comes back from the engine builder Thursday with new lighter cats, single-exit exhaust, no a/c, and new race coilovers...I need to corner-balance it before the first race on Sunday, we'll see what it ends up as. With seats and other legal modifications my goal is 2475lbs with 1/3 tank fuel.

I have a '86 base. The feel is completely different from a '87 GXL I've also driven. Granted throughout the years it grew an extra lug on each wheel, the differential matured to a LSD and a turbocharger formed under the hood.....

yea if you want just a good drag car, the base model is to start with.
Swap in a turbo engine/tranny, get the custom driveshaft, and rig in an NA kaaz LSD and you'll be good to go
I have no idea how the half shafts will stand up to the power, if you plan that is, putting more than like 250 to the wheels with that setup.
Still, it would be fun

I like my 88gtu lsd, 5 lug, sunroof, sport suspension, turbo seats, areo pakage and it dosnt wiegh as much as a gxl And I didnt have to swap any of that over its all standard.
So 88GTU = the awsome.

nice setup man. I built my whole project for around 4800 bucks.
I still have the 4 lug setup since the car came with lightweight regamasters and hoosiers mounted on the four lug, I read you can swap calipers and still retain the 4 lug which would be sweet for me.
BTW how quick is your car, I am running stock turbo for now, 3" dual exhaust, throttle body mod with porting on the TB and Intake mani. Boost around 13-14 psi. My car is completely gutted (tar, doors, dash everything) Hoping its around 2300 if im lucky the sparco seats are pretty light too.
Its not a drag car but im thinking low 13's are capable on the stock turbo for now.
